Review summary

I don't think I would book with again. Mainly because they didn't tell me about the mandatory tips. This ended up costing me an extra $140 that I did not even factor into my cruise budget. If I did not bring on extra money or my credit card, who knows what would have happened. But for the cruise line itself, Norwegian Breakaway is a very very nice ship and there is a lot to do for just about everyone. I don't think you'll be disappointed. Book with Norwegian itself. Don't rely on not unless you want to end up with a lot of extra charges that they didn't tell you about.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Smooth, extremely quick shooting great. Well that's like two different things

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
The drinks were absolutely amazing, extremely delicious. The bartenders were absolutely amazing, they knew each and every drink that I wanted and they made it to perfection. The food on the other hand, was not that great, but I must say that it only went to the buffet on the lido deck.

Onboard Activities

1 out of 5
The pool is extremely tiny. There are very little deck chairs around the immediate area of the pool. You need to get up super early just to get a chair. People reserve chairs for other people and like I said if you're not out there early in the morning like bye 5:45 a.m. you're probably not getting a chair that entire day. I honestly really didn't do any activities on the ship. I didn't go to any of the clubs, nor did I do any of the shows so I really can't talk to any of that.

Entertainment

I did not go to any of the entertainment that was on the ship.

Children's Programs

I was a solo cruiser.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everybody that I had contact with from the bartenders, to the waitresses to my cabin stewards were absolutely incredible. They went above and beyond to make sure that I had everything that I needed and that I was happy.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was extremely large so that was a plus so there was a lot of places to go. Even though some of the places were crowded. The ship was extremely well taken care of and meticulously cleaned .

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
For an inside cabin being a solo cruiser, it was more than enough room for me. Now I think if there was three or more it would be extremely uncomfortable. But if you had two people in there, there's more than enough room I believe for two people. But that particular cabin did not have a lot of space for putting your clothes.

Ship tip

Wait until the Cruise fares are within your budget cuz it is definitely not something that I would spend a ton of money on going on that particular ship with that particular destination that I went on cuz some of the places were pretty nasty

Ports of call

New Orleans, Louisiana Did not visit port

I just flew into New Orleans just to get on the ship and really didn't want to see anything that New Orleans had that particular day because all I cared about was getting on the ship

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Cozumel was absolutely beautiful. The water was a color that is so hard to describe really unless you see it. It was the lightest blue and it was crystal clear. I can't even explain how beautiful it was. I went on a three reef snorkel tour which I would not take again. There was nothing to see really and the water that was hardly any fish. So for that particular excursion it was price to high for what I didn't get to see.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5

Harvest Caye, Belize

5 out of 5
I went on a one hour wave runner tour, which was amazing. Our tour guide pointed out some dolphins that were no further than an arm's length away and it ended up being a mother with a baby, and another dolphin that jumped out of the water. That was right next to my wave runner. I would definitely do this tour again. The town was amazing. There was a lot of shopping options and it was extremely clean and I didn't feel like I needed to worry about my safety so that was a huge plus. This is a definite must.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Costa Maya was an extremely small port but it was absolutely beautiful. Again, the water was the bluest blue. So hard to describe unless you see it. It is a port that I would definitely go back to again I went to. I guess I don't even know what the name of it was but it had a water park, a zipline lots of pools, lots of whirlpools, the longest lazy river I think I've ever seen in my tire life. It took like 25 minutes just to go all the way around. The grounds were meticulously maintained. They had well up kept bathrooms, they had a restaurant. This is something I would definitely do. Do again, I wish I remembered the name of it. Think I went

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It was extremely easy to get off the ship. The process was very fast for me anyway.

I loved reading your review You seem so innocent and honest I had some chuckles in certain parts When booking your next cruise, look for prepaid gratuities included, this way you won't have to pay anymore, unless you wish to special tip someone who has gone up and above (for my cruise in December 2024, on the Breakaway too), I have prepaid gratuities, but I will do some special tips too Thank you for providing details about the condition of the ship, it was very helpful for me Happy sailing!

Right, certainly more research is needed

Fuchsia     8 months ago

You can't go out to dinner without tipping

Sogmoore     8 months ago

Well I see you did not do any research. All cruise lines tax, some do it better by letting you know. Best of luck.

Always read the terms when booking. The daily gratuities are spelled out. This is common among most cruise lines, Carnival, RCCL, etc all do them.

We always have a great experience on Ncl.

Yes, most lines have an extra line item for gratuities. I know in the past I’ve done prepaid gratuities with NCL so it doesn’t hit me at the end. I’ve been told you can have that waived, and do cash tips if you so desire, but I have never tried that. But I do tip above and beyond for really good service especially with our cabin steward.

well you have a pretty good attitude for someone who had unexpected charges. Consider giving them another chance as all the lines have gratuities. thanks for the review

Looks like you enjoyed yourself overall. I try to book my cruises to include enough on board credits to pay for the tips. Maybe next time find a travel agent that will include extra for spending or tips. Thanks for your review.
