It wasn’t the best cruise we’ve ever been on, but we still enjoyed ourselves. Someone to clean your room, people to cook and clean up after, what’s not to like? We didn’t do any excursions this time. Chose to just go with flow and relax. Having the towels to check out/in right when you get off ship was nice as well as the cool towel to wipe your brow before you got back on ship.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
We were 25 minutes from arrival to buffet. Fastest we’ve ever experienced!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Buffet lots the same but food was mostly hot. Breakfast in main restaurants, usually slow and sometimes food barely warm. Dinner in main restaurants sometimes slow unless you got a good set of servers. We started requesting Trust and Naomi near the end when we found they were good. Food was great most of the time. Nothing spectacular, though.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Pool was small, especially for this size of a ship, but the water was not cold! Lots of chairs around 2 decks, so always found a chair even though it was crowded. Slides were fun. Rope course was good, although a little scary going over the water (ha). Fitness center was clean and had enough machines. It was separated from the weights area.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
Fred Bevill comedian and Jean Pierre Parent, comedian/magician were great! Greta Salome, violinist was fabulous!!!! Theater small for a ship this size, especially when there was only 1 performance. Get there at least 20 minutes early! Howling Dueling pianos was great also.
Service and Staff
4 out of 5
Our room steward was ok. He did get me body lotion and hair conditioner since it wasn’t provided. Hardly saw him but he did a good job of taking care of room. Some servers at restaurants very slow, some very good and attentive. Buffet servers very helpful.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Most of the ship was very clean. Back of the buffet area tables didn’t get cleaned as often as they should have. Pool small. Kids area small pool. Otherwise ok, design. Sometimes hard to get around to where we wanted to go. Had to learn which elevator to get off!
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
For a cruise ship, the cabin was quite roomy. Nice to have a small couch. Balcony was decent sized. Shower was nice sized (like I said, for a cruise ship— have had smaller!). Bed, very comfortable. Did NOT hear anything around us. Not much room between end of bed and wall, however or between couch and closet. NO drawers to put clothes in, just shelves.
Ship tip
Book entertainment BEFORE you get on board! Probably restaurants also, for those you can book. We didn’t use specialty places. O’Sheehans, great wings!
Made it thru gauntlet of taxi drivers/tour drivers but was difficult. Starbucks with free wifi in little shopping area past the gauntlet. Walked to beach to rent chairs. Ocean off that beach just ok. Grassy bottom.
Snorkeled in a little area not far from ship. Security guard watched our stuff!! Then some young men told us to use public bus to get to beach, so we did. Met by local to rent chairs/umbrella. LOTS of people!
After going thru gauntlet, negotiated a price of $40 for taxi to and from beach. Favorite snorkeling!! Water so clear, many bright fish! Got a ‘beach massage’! Ha. Ladies all over with stools wanting to give massage. An experience! $20 We were in chairs in front of a bar that had a very nice pool behind it that we had access to (after paying $20). Our taxi driver waited for us, then took us back when we were ready and even stopped at a gas station to get me a (much cheaper) Diet Coke! He was great with information about his island.
NCL owned island so cruise ship prices. HUGE pool but crowded. We walked down beach quite a ways and had no problem finding lounge chairs. Snorkeled but not good. Very few fish, but teeny tiny little snails along the bottom. Very shallow. Need more showers, closer to the end of their area along the beach. Didn’t like feeling contained.
This port created for cruise industry. Shopping area nice but expensive. Had a show where the men were dressed as birds then climbed up a very high tower and then swung upside down around the tower! Impressive. Asked for tips for the show. Had to buy something at Starbucks to get wifi. Watched dolphins at the dolphin experience place. There was a pool/bar and a bird place where there were large parrots. Again, contained, if you didn’t do an excursion.
Took a taxi bus to a bar/restaurant area with snorkeling/diving/snuba. Snorkeled with a guide (who expected a tip). Interesting little fish houses. Not too many different kinds of fish, but saw a lobster hidden under a rock that guide pointed out. He went too fast however, for my taste. I like to wander slowly to see things. Water clear.
Thanks for your review. My wife and I will be cruising on her the 29th. Your review helps us plan accordingly as we have never cruised on Norwegian before.
