Our first Norwegian cruise and probably our last based on it. Based on the crowded entertainment venues, condition of the mattress and couch in our state room and the general atmosphere of the cruise itself; we will go back to Holland America and Princess as our favorites.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Handled quickly even with with the large number of passengers.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The Manhattan offered the normal fare for a cruise with the usual good service. It also featured a dance floor and occasionally a show. The music was too loud and the lights were in your eyes if seated facing the dance floor.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
The library was very small and infrequently staffed. The fitness center had plenty of machines and was very clean. I only used it a few times and never saw any staff there.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
The shows we were able to see were good. Getting in the shows was difficult due to the small theater and large number of passengers wanting to see the shows.
Children's Programs
No children with us.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward was excellent - always friendly even though he was rushed with the number of rooms he had to attend to. The waiters in the dining facility were overall good. The service in the Taste was slow due to the server and distance from the kitchen. The line service in the buffet was good but getting refills of tea or water at the table was almost nonexistent.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
A beautiful ship and constant work to keep it clean. The only poor design was the casino in the middle of the ship and the smell of smoke in that area.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
The comfort was a low point as the mattress was old and worn. The couch was a fold out bed that was not comfortable to sit on. The room was maintained well by the room steward. The size was adequate for a seven day cruise but the storage was a little small for our luggage.
Ship tip
Four thousand people is too crowded for the shows and entertainment.
I went on Norwegian for the first time in November and I will never step back on another one of their ships. I’m happier on Royal, carnival and Disney. Already have my next cruise booked in April on RCL. I can’t get over how terrible Norwegian is.
