My adult daughter and I are experienced cruisers--over 30 cruises. Consequently, we were extremely disappointed in the Breakaway-especially because the Getaway was so fabulous. We did read the reviews before we selected our ship but could not believe that things could be that bad. It was worse. Customer service was so lacking on this ship that everyone (not an overstatement!) complained about it. It was pretty obvious that no one was watching the store nor gave a damn about the issues. Some first-time cruisers we met said they would never cruise again. The ship wasn't dirty, except for the public bathrooms which were always filthy, but it wasn't immaculate either. The issues we, and our fellow passengers, experienced could be easily fixed IF attention was paid to them. Clearly, this was not a priority on the Breakaway and it was obvious. Most obvious, there was not enough help anywhere on the ship. Every area appeared to be short staffed. That's probably why everyone was so grumpy.
We will not sale on NCL again.

Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Food was excellent throughout the ship. Pool bars, however, ran out of limes, pineapple and pina colada mix. How does that happen on a cruise ship?
Onboard Activities

Poolside activities wand contests were hilarious. Not so on the ship--especiall in the bar areas.
Entertainment

Service and Staff

Consistently deplorable. Have never experienced this on a cruise ship. Guest Services personnel were downright nasty; never smiled. Cabin steward was nowhere to be seen. Bartenders were rude and condescending. The one bartender who was terrific (Alex from the Atrium Bar), was fired! Why? Waiters in dining rooms and restaurants were outstanding--because their management was outstanding. Not so with Guest Services. FYI!! We sailed on the Getaway in 2017 and it was a totally different experience. It all has to do with the management..
Ship Quality

Ship was much too large for one pool. Sanitation was an oxymoron, i.e., soap dispensers in the public bathrooms were constantly out of soap, so how could we wash our hands? There was water on the floors and in the sinks consistently. Very dangerous. Most surprising, we never saw one attendant in the public bathrooms cleaning anything or replenishing product. Appalling.
Cabin / Stateroom

Mini suite is just a cabin. Balcony was postage-sized. Cabin was clean for the most part. However, our cabin steward left a lot to be desired. For example, our sheets were not changed. and we never received a "Welcome" packet with our perks, etc. Worst cabin experience ever,
The worst. We were lined up over an hour to disembark. Have never seen this before in over 30 cruises. This is usually a very smooth and efficient process because they want to get yo off the ship quickly!
Wow it is crazy how 2 people can take the same cruise and have such different reviews! I guess I will see for myself in January! Disembarkation has always been a pain, at least on all of my cruises!
