Review summary

Overall, this was not one of the better cruises. I don't know if I will cruise with Norwegian again. There were too many little things going wrong and not enough good things going right. It was just mediocre. The ports that were allowed to get off the ship and venture to were nice especially Jamaica. I think I will stick with Royal Carribean and Carnival cruiselines.

Embarkation

We embarked an hour after the scheduled time due to waiting on two cruisers to make it to the ship. I was very surprised that the people in charge held the ship until these two cruisers came. They didn't want to compensate for the delay. I talked with Raoul Reece at the customer service desk who in my opinion was rather rude. He said to me that 'if it were you wouldn't you want the ship to wait for you'. I asked him about a complimentary fruit bowl for the delay in embarkation, he told me his supervisor, Carleen Laurente' said 'no'.

They reminded us to wash our hands freqently but I never once saw any of the ship's employees wash their hands. However, I did see two of the ship's cooks sticking their hands in the bowl of fries and eating the fries from the bowl that was used to serve the fries on the buffet line. I did see other cooks using gloved hands to touch food, pots, serving spoons that the guests have touched and then they touched the food again with the same gloves. I did observe cooks sneezing around the food that they were preparing to serve to the guests...totally unsanitary.

Our aspirin went missing from our rooms. The cooks were not clean and were eating food that was to be served to the guests, touching food with their bare hands without washing their hands...

The pilot thought it best we don't get off the ship due to the high waves although Royal Carribean was just next to us and were tendering with no problem. Also, Carnival was just on the other side of this same port tendering with no problem.

Disembarkation

It seemed disorganized and lacked communication. We were told we could exit the ship but had to wait in line for about 40 minutes for our luggage. The luggage handlers were complaining that the ship let us exit too soon without notifying them and they weren't ready for us.

You forgot to mention the tongs on the buffet or salt and pepper shakers for Noro Virus. I wouldn't be worried about the cooks or servers.

I would hope that they would wait for me for two hours.... wow...a whole 2 hours... asking for a fruit bowl...go to buffet make your own....sounds like a complainer....go to carnival and royal....it's about expectations...I expect u complain about everything

We (hubby, Mom & I) cruised on the Breakaway the week before Christmas out of New Orleans to Western Caribbean & had only 1 bad-weather day (in Cozumel)! Only negative was the embarkation/debarkation at NOLA Cruise Port! I got to snork

Great staff, the ship was large, but the staterooms and corridors were too small
