Review summary

They are very disorganized and are not all about the customer experience. They charge for a lot of little extra things. Room service is no longer free, they got rid of lobster night and only have it in specialty restaurants which you pay for, gave me bootleg escargot. It was mushrooms, not snails. Had special where you received complimentary beverage package, but charged you for the taxes every time you were in port on every drink. My sister's room steward was horrible. She went down to adjust the gratuities and you have to email the form to them and they will refund you within two weeks. They had a game of family feud but did not have a buzzer so you had to make animal noises. It was just ridiculous. It was obvious they had cut backs and thought of how to cut back on the customer but be profitable for the cruise line. I've been on several cruises but this was by far the worst!

Thanks for sharing your cruise.

ok, must be something to do with NY state and our wonderfully outrageous taxes, because I know Carnival cannot sell or honor their Cheers program while in a NY port. charging the tax, must be NCLs way of getting around the law.

I think the taxes thing is only in US ports... NY, Fl for example. you are being charged whatever tax would apply if you got a drink anywhere on land in that locale. it is very minimal, pretty sure less than a dollar. there are no additional charges once you are in open water.

wow, I can see this will be my first and last Norwegian cruise. doesn't make any sense to prepay gratuities.

so, you're saying on top of the prepaid gratuity and the promo service charge gratuity I've already paid, they will charge me another gratuity on top of all this?

4ria    9 years ago

they charge an extra gratuity for each drink

I'm confused by this as well. I am going in June and have the drink package and paid my gratuities up front. When I went to Bermuda in RC and had a drink package I paid nothing. Just signed my receipts but no additional fees.

did they not charge you for the taxes in your cruise fare upfront or was this an error on NCLs part. I'm not sure I understand why they would charge taxes in each port.
