This was an excellent cruise on a beautiful ship with a unique itinerary and an awesome crew. Sailing through Prince Christian Sound in Greenland was an amazing experience. Having 5 ports in Iceland was a chance to see so much!

Review summary

We would recommend this cruise because of the unique itinerary. Holland America does a very good job with nearly everything, but especially with food.

Embarkation

Because of a coast guard inspection, everyone was forced to wait for hours in the hot, stuffy terminal building.

The Lido buffet was delicious and we mostly ate there. So many stations with so many choices! The Pinnacle Grill was also excellent but Canaletto (Italian) was a big disappointment. The hamburger place, Dive In had great food, as did the pizza place called New York Deli.

Onboard Activities

Did not do any activities except go to the gym, which is an excellent one. The cruise director, Bettyann did several enrichment talks which were entertaining and informative. The Crows Nest had many interactive areas where we could learn all about the ports.

Entertainment

Chris Pendelton, a comedian and violinist did 2 shows which were the best we have ever had on a ship. Some of the singing groups were good and a dance company did 4 shows which everyone like.

Service and Staff

All of the crew were so friendly, enthusiastic and helpful. Didn't have much officer interaction however.

We had an inside room which was pretty small but had lots of storage and closet space.

Ship tip

You can't use non-refundable OBC in the casino, and the stuff in the shops is way over priced. Try to use your OBC for shore excursions or specialty restaurants because you can't get it out anywhere as cash.
