Nightmare. Didn’t get to go to any of the places we wanted to go when we booked the trip and treated horribly when we were leaving just because I spent enough to be red flagged when we were getting off the boat.
Embarkation
2 out of 5
Ship delayed arriving and messed up whole trip. Missed out on all the places we wanted to go. Only reason it’s not one star is because the cruise line did try and compensate us but still ended up a disaster.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Buffet-not good. Specialty dining room well done and main dining room ok. Drinks were mostly good
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Pools were old, small, and very crowded. Honestly the best thing we found to do were the board games in a lounge. Not much else.
Entertainment

Really didn’t have much
Children's Programs

Nothing for kids honestly
Service and Staff

Cabin / Stateroom

We had to change rooms as the first one had such terrible squeaks and noises coming from it no one could stand it. Room they moved us too was better
Worst part of the entire trip. Was harassed by company because I purchased jewelry for my wife for a gift. We were taken away from our kids to a separate room and harassed about the purchase which one, ruined the surprise for her, second treated like criminals for doing nothing wrong other than spend money, and third separated from children that scared them as well.
The wheelchair comment makes no sense to me. We cruise HA all the time and I was just on Half Moon Cey 4 days go and many wheelchairs and scooters were loaded on the tender and went to the island. They also have beach wheelchairs available on the island. I think they got caught bringing purchases in excess of their allowances and didn’t claim them, now they make a complaint that it’s all HA fault.
Just curious….why would you book a HAL cruise with children. A little research prior to the cruise would have helped you realize that HAL does not cater to children. You would have been better off with a Royal Caribbean, NCL, Princess, or Carnival cruise. So I don’t give much credence to your complaints about nothing for the children to do. It was a lack of research on your part. As far as the jewelry, I’m not sure we’re getting the full story. It sounds like it was neglected to be claimed prior to going through customs. And finally, missing ports is unfortunately something out of your control, or the cruise line. It’s clearly stated in the contract that itineraries might change.
Sorry the cruise was so bad for you. We sailed on Neiuw Amsterdam 13-20jan24, and we had a fantastic time! Not sure how old your children are but I would recommend a Carnival cruise for younger children. They have a great kids program. Holland America is definitely for the older crowd, at least the one we were on was.
