Food poisoning. Too boring, unorganized by brodix325

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

hi, we did this cruise Sept 21-28 to Honduras, Belize, Cozumel with a group of friends.  There was 4 families..each having 2 kids.  We are all in our early-mid 30's and all the kids are ages 8-15.  This is our 4th cruise--1st with RCCL.

CONS::The TV channel in the room giving ship info to shows, ports, etc as well as the announcements over the speaker all lacked the fact that for some things you have to go to guest services to obtain a "ticket".  So we missed the ice shows, late for our Belize excursion and the last "ticket" needed was to disembark which was never looked at when we were called so it was useless to spend the time to obtain it to begin with.  My husband got food poisoning and was sick the first 2.5 days.  There is only 1 show a night and not even one offered every night.  Live band is horrible and rarely plays.  When the band was not playing it was more commercial type things than actual music.. and if it was music it was not anything known or upbeat "cruise" music.  Big screen out by pool during day was random videos that did not even play the sound or co-inside with the music playing.  Staff was not outgoing with the exception to the 2 waiters we had in the dining room.  Cups in buffet areas were sometimes dirty, had to even walk up to staff standing around and take the rag to go clean our own table off.  Beds were so hard i had to get 2 extra blankets and a mattress pad to put down just so my ribs were not raw. We stayed on deck 6 (fwd) and the hall always smelled like a dirty kitty litter box.  there were also some other areas that i actually was looking around for a dog on the boat as it smelled like it just crapped on the floors or something!!  Room attendant was not refilling the soap dispenser in the shower, actually had to tear the front of the unit off and put it on the sink as a "friendly" reminder!  Drinks..... we did not purchase a "drink package" although the other 3 families did.  We bought a few daily and only after the cruise was almost over did we find out from another cruiser that a few of the "daily" drinks that we purchased were to come with a souvenir cup/glass for free.... we were never offered these but paid FULL price for them!  There is more but i will stop here.....

PROS:  the wave rider.  (staff not so happy, but this is a neat, fun, exciting thing on this boat that i have never seen),  getting on boat took 30min ! YIPPIE! getting off boat 1hr from time we left our room and we carried off all luggage.  Wait staff, as mentioned before, in our Sapphire dining room was excellent.  Best PRO was GETTING OFF THE BOAT--- for excursions and this is sad but this is also the first time we were looking forward to the END of our vacation and going home!  :'(

Needless to say... we arrived home Sunday afternoon and by Tues we booked a "redo" vacation on the CARNIVAL lines as we have always taken.  We will not take another RCCL boat again.

A bad start of what could have been a good cruise by drunglaube

A careless porter of Royal Caribbean dropped a dolly load of suitcases onto my wife's back and cracked her big toe.

That ruined our seven days aboard. The least we expected was for Royal Caribbean to offer us a complementary  cruise at a later time----- but they awarded us "Emerald" status !

Just what we needed by SaraATX

This trip was so great for my husband and I.  This is an older and smaller ship but the wonderful staff makes up for it greatly.  I would love if the casinos would ban smoking, as I did not get to enjoy that portion.

1st time cruiser thoroughly enjoyed the Cruise by scottlh

The week on the Navigator of the Seas was truly a vacation.  The service was top notch.  Some of the onboard activities were amazingly well done.  However I thought there would be more options, so my only disappointment was with the limited entertainment.  The facilities were amazing  - very clean and the boarding and exiting the ship was as organized as it could be for accommodating 4 thousand people.  The food was delicious - my only complaint there is that the juices seem watered down - but they have a lot of selection and adequate seating.  Our stateroom was clean and well kept -  however the free onboard television channels are very limited - unless you want to pay to view - you are not going to find much entertainment value watching television.  Overall the cruise was very enjoyable.

issues with food quality and service by barbarascasey46

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Previously, we cruised with Carnival and thought the atmosphere of all the carnival activities was a bit much BUT the food and the service in the restaurants was fabulous. In contrast to Royal Caribbean's food quality and service and the attitude of some of the servers was very disappointing. We were told that IF we had chosen the early dinner time, our food would have been better. That information came from the Maitre 'd in our section of the restaurant. There was never a meal that we didn't have to send food back to the kitchen.

Upon boarding the ship, we were left on our own to find our state rooms and this was across the board on ship and even made a joke on stage at entertainment.

All-in-all, I don't think we will cruise with RC again.

Great cruise, embarking and disembarking not great by rudyrr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We have sailed RC many times and have been on sister ship Voyager of the Seas, before, knew what to expect, and were not disappointed.  Navigator has been recently refurbished and it is even more beautiful. We had an outside balcony and that made it awesome. The entertainment was very good, the food great and the service as good as always. Would recommend this ship to anyone.

Embarking and disembarking. always a pain, was longer and more difficult than previous occasions but this is due to Galveston not having the kind of boarding facilities one finds in Miami or Fort Lauderdale.

On the other hand, the sailing location resulted in the great majority of the passengers being Texans (we are from the East Coast) and we found Texans were the most fun passenger group of any other cruise we have ever been. Down to earth, friendly and approachable.

Love Royal Caribbean by shkenrah

The cruise ship itself and the entertainment on it was fabulous.  Not so keen on the ports we stopped in.  Not much to see in Cozumel or Caymen Island and the stories we heard prior to our cruise about Jamaica, I don't even know why the cruise ships would go into that port.  Royal Caribbean is prettier, and cleaner then a previous cruise ship I have been on.

Awesome vacation by debrabuckley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Awesome vacation, exceptional service, first class organization. From the time we stepped on the ship we had nothing but the best of service, from the quality of our stateroom to our porter, waiters, entertainment crew, to the ease of organization of the complete cruise. I have been on many cruise lines sailing from the Caribbean and Mediterranean to Mexico an Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas was by far the best cruise.

Enjoyable by rambychiro

We took this trip with a total of 16 people.  This was our first time on Royal Caribbean and our first time to get a balcony room.  I would recommend a balcony room to everyone. We had previously been in inside rooms, but with the balcony, you can step outside without having to go out of your room.  The entertainment was great on the cruise, especially the Quest and the piano bar. There was always something going on at any given time of the day.

Johnny Rockets by wtpetersonjr

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Major disappointment.  Having been of this ship before, I highly recommended Johnny Rockets as a fun lunch experience.  The 4 of us were among the first to enter the restaurant when it opened.  Immediately we were seated and the fun started, but soon turned to disappointment.  After ordering, it took 26 minutes to be served our Milk Shakes - on of us was served the requested Chili Dog - waited another 10 minutes to be served our Cheeseburgers - burgers did NOT have cheese - took another 12 minutes to replace the burgers with cheeseburgers - one of us 4 had finished before the other 3 were served - no on that ordered the Oreo Shake was impressed.  This was the low point of an otherwise great cruise.

Quality, friendly staff and cruise by delanec3

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The staff on our cruise was just great.  Our supper table staff was wonderful, the cabin steward was very nice, and just about everyone was extremely friendy and helpful.  Food was good, nice variety and well-served. Everything was very sean and well-maintained.  Our three land tours were most informative.  Someone arranged our rains for nights, except for the downpour at Ahten-Ha. Our "night out" dinner at Chops Grill was perhaps over-rated and too expensive for what we received. The experience in off-loading and getting through c ustoms was terrible and took two hours to stand and move in-line to get out , but I cannot fault the ship for that.  Overall, the cruise was very nice.

Friendly and Fun by daniell842

Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

This ship was one of the nicer ones I have been on.  I never once saw anything that was dirty.  Everything was always in clean shape.  All of the staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable.  If you are seeking the night club scene then this is not your ship.  Other then that if you are looking for a nice relaxing time then this is your ship.  Most of the passengers were adult so not many kids at all.  I can actually count on one hand how many children I saw the entire time.

Best Vacation Ever! by bahahaha

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My Royal Caribbean cruise experience on the Navigator of the Seas was excellent--I can hardly wait to cruise again.  I traveled with my daughter, daughter-in-law-, and two grandchildren.   The ship is stunningly beautiful, spotlessly clean, and very easy to find your way around.  The food was excellent in all the venues, as was the service in the dining room.  Our room attendant always addressed us by name, and no request was too large, or too small.  He met every request, and knew the answer to any question we had.  There was a large choice of shore excursions at each port of call.  The on board shows were fun; we especially enjoyed the ice dancing, musical impressionist, and the magic/comedy shows.  Go cruise on Royal Caribbean--it will be your best vacation ever!

Great shore excursion in Roatan.  However when we got to Galveston it was over two hours from the time they called our number, to get off ship, until we were out of customs .  We were standing in line all that time. It was very BAD!!

Royal Caribbean Navigator of the Seas by Chibbs

Beautiful ship. Have been on this ship before and kind of knew what to expect.  We were not disappointed, it is still a very nice ship.  We had an inside room with a virtual balcony, which is really awesome.  It "went out" but our room steward notified IT and it was fixed right away.  The entertainment was outstanding.  Food was very good.  Would recommend this ship to anyone.

RCL Navigator of the Seas by shayden

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We were in a junior suite and our stateroom attendant was awesome!  We were in 1046.  Definetley request the extra bed pad for a comfort sleeping environment.  Our attendant immediately acquried one for us and it was awesome.

Our friends in 9288 were not as lucky in their balcony.  Their A/C did not work most of the week and it was found out two days before we left their balcony stateroom door was broken and that caused the A/C to turn off.  Not the best first time cruise for our friends.

We did have a good cruise and so did our friends despite the A/C experience.  However, we did have one real negative which RCL apparantly has not chosen to address.  During the Quest Game show the second to the last night, we left dinner at 9:50 and doors opened at 10 p,m.  The show started at 10:30 p.m.  At 10:05 we arrived and selected our seats and two people went to the bar for a drink and two went out to smoke.  That left two of us trying  to hold six seats but we were all there well before the show.

A 60'ish gentleman came up to me and said "you can't save seats."  I told him politely my friends had gone to get a drink or smoke, but they were here.  He then slapped me hard on my left shoulder blade as my back was to him and retreated a few steps and again told me "You can't save seats!".  I was so stunned.  I immediately responded that "it was not appropriate to assault a woman!"

A cruise staff person then approached me because the jerk complained about me.  I explained what happened and he asked if I would be comfortable on the aisle while the other "gentleman" sat six seats in.  This was the end of the theater and not a prime spot.  I said no, I was leaving as I was not comfortable anywhere near this man who assaulted me.

I went back to my cabin to fold dirty laundry before the end of the trip and left the show.  Bottom line, that staff member told me he would refer it to a police matter at port if I wanted, then said he "could not be sure the man would give his name or cabin # (after I already provided mine to the staff member on my own) because he "might have had too much to drink and was violent, or not that, "just a man's man."  I will never forget those words.

So the next day I go to Guest Services to take care of some other items and the gentleman I speak to tells me security is looking into the "incident".  I was told even though it was the last night of the cruise, I would receive a call that night.  Did we?  NO!

I responded to an RCL email to review this cruise, and I mentioned the assault and no response.  If everyone took everything so seriously when a guest is assaulted by another guest as I was assured of three times, why have i gotten no response?

I went Platinum after this cruise so I obviously love RCL.  Never ever have I had this lack of response or this violence from another guest.  I have to wonder why the staff member (who wrote his name down for me but I will not publish on this report) did not immediately go get more security to ask this man to give them his name and not tell me "he may or may not give me his name".  He was right there!

We did love the cruise itself.  It just ended very badly and I have never been physically assaulted on a cruise.  I love RCL, but I have no idea why they have not responded to me about this when they offered to file a police report not once, but three times in person.  I can only guess, they think I am forgetting about this and I am not.

Would I, perhaps.  I told them I only wanted someone to tell the "gentleman" his behavior was not acceptable which they indicated they concurred with.  I have been cruising with RCL for 20 years and I am so disappointed in their lack of response to being assaulted by a stranger on their ship and their lack of responding.

Several hours were miserable with no crew help.  The rest of the cruise was awesome.
