Review summary
hi, we did this cruise Sept 21-28 to Honduras, Belize, Cozumel with a group of friends. There was 4 families..each having 2 kids. We are all in our early-mid 30's and all the kids are ages 8-15. This is our 4th cruise--1st with RCCL.
CONS::The TV channel in the room giving ship info to shows, ports, etc as well as the announcements over the speaker all lacked the fact that for some things you have to go to guest services to obtain a "ticket". So we missed the ice shows, late for our Belize excursion and the last "ticket" needed was to disembark which was never looked at when we were called so it was useless to spend the time to obtain it to begin with. My husband got food poisoning and was sick the first 2.5 days. There is only 1 show a night and not even one offered every night. Live band is horrible and rarely plays. When the band was not playing it was more commercial type things than actual music.. and if it was music it was not anything known or upbeat "cruise" music. Big screen out by pool during day was random videos that did not even play the sound or co-inside with the music playing. Staff was not outgoing with the exception to the 2 waiters we had in the dining room. Cups in buffet areas were sometimes dirty, had to even walk up to staff standing around and take the rag to go clean our own table off. Beds were so hard i had to get 2 extra blankets and a mattress pad to put down just so my ribs were not raw. We stayed on deck 6 (fwd) and the hall always smelled like a dirty kitty litter box. there were also some other areas that i actually was looking around for a dog on the boat as it smelled like it just crapped on the floors or something!! Room attendant was not refilling the soap dispenser in the shower, actually had to tear the front of the unit off and put it on the sink as a "friendly" reminder! Drinks..... we did not purchase a "drink package" although the other 3 families did. We bought a few daily and only after the cruise was almost over did we find out from another cruiser that a few of the "daily" drinks that we purchased were to come with a souvenir cup/glass for free.... we were never offered these but paid FULL price for them! There is more but i will stop here.....
PROS: the wave rider. (staff not so happy, but this is a neat, fun, exciting thing on this boat that i have never seen), getting on boat took 30min ! YIPPIE! getting off boat 1hr from time we left our room and we carried off all luggage. Wait staff, as mentioned before, in our Sapphire dining room was excellent. Best PRO was GETTING OFF THE BOAT--- for excursions and this is sad but this is also the first time we were looking forward to the END of our vacation and going home! :'(
Needless to say... we arrived home Sunday afternoon and by Tues we booked a "redo" vacation on the CARNIVAL lines as we have always taken. We will not take another RCCL boat again.
