Different than what I expected by shivariaw

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

I'm a cruise traveler.  I have been on pretty much every cruise line.  But this was my first time on Royal.  I chose this cruise line because of the commercials of Kristin Chenoweth.  Of course, I was on an older ship not the one that she recommended.  It was OK.  Just not what I expected.  Let me start with the food choices.  In the dining room there were no good choices. The classics should have consisted of a lasagna or spaghetti, chicken fried chicken or steak, or a fettuccine pasta.  We found ourselves wanting the ambiance of the restaurant but not eating the food. The restaurant wait staff were great deserving a 10.  But they could not change the menu choices. Then they have the Windjammers with the same food day after day.  No food choices except for Cafe Promenade after 9 p.m. Then rest assure you are going to get a sandwich. Most of the decent food cost an up charge.  For example to get a good burger.  You have to go to Johnny Rockets and pay 5.95 a person plus tip, plus drinks.  Even cheap Carnival gives you Guys Burgers for FREE.  Then you have room service.  Order by a certain time or you will be charged a fee.  We had the beverage package but if we decided to use a regular cup instead of the souvenir cup we were stopped and ask to show our beverage id on our ship card. I guess I was use to getting food and having some special food events at night.  There are cruise lines that do the Mexican buffet one night at midnight.  And a chocolate lover event late night. Even a barbecue event on sea days. But none of that was on this ship. Okay so off the food.  Now lets talk entertainment/games.  You play trivia.  Not asking too much but even if you win you get a highlighter or a zipper pull.  But what about something to remember your vacation like a small trophy. Also, the shows.  I guess I was expecting grandeur.  With a Tony winner promoting Royal.  I thought better shows with sets and massive talent.  Although, the ice show was beautiful. Beautiful set design, costume and talent.  The show was the right length as well.  The Quest was fun.  It was interactive.  I even brought my teenage daughter and she loved it.  The cruise director is funny and personable.  As far as the smoking in the casinos.  I hated it.  Any time I needed to get to my room, I had to walk through there.  Although, I know that it will be a long time before one cruise line steps up and takes the ball and get rid of it.  I worked for Marriott a long time.  They were the first to get rid of smoking on property and after a month later all the hotels followed suit.  Shopping was okay.  They need much more event shopping and a lot lower prices.  Then the rooms.  Very small must have done with a wide angle lens. The beds fold out on top.  Not use to that.  Was on another cruise line where they were on the other side of the room.  Great for safety, I would think.  Then there is the shower.  Only one if you get the ocean view room.  Other cruise ships are retrofitting the two bathrooms in one ocean view room.  The room attendant was very efficient.  He cleaned the room from top to bottom.  He was friendly and he defiantly was deserving of his tip.  The embarkation and debarkation had many kinks.  I arrived early but the time I was on the ship they were in the drill.  It's wasn't efficient checking in at all.  In fact, in all my years this one took the longest ever.  Not sure whether there was a problem or what.  Getting off was the same challenge. We were sent to crowded rooms with lots of people and had to wait for a time.

I'm not telling anyone not to take this ship.  You could absolutely love this.  Or if you a comparing to others you may not.  I know that Royal makes other ships and I am willing to give them a chance but Navigator I won't do again.

This was our second cruise with Royal and it did not dissapoint. We are spoiled in that we went on our first cruise on the Allure of the Seas. With that said we had a great time and would cruise on navigator again.

We took our grand kids on the Navigator of the Seas since it was departing from Texas where they live.  We were on this ship ten years ago and for the most part all was wonderful.  RCCl needs to work on disembarkation as this was beyond horrible.  Otherwise, all was perfect.

THE CREDIT? by thuynguyen602

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

When I booked I was told I will receive $150 credit for room.  Turn out I had only $50 credit.  When I was in the ship, I have checked with customer service on board, they gave different reason...like my room was only 2 people then my room was inside...and they said I need to talk with my agent?!  Well!  We went with a big group, not only me receiving $50 credit....Yeah, someone got $150 credit, someone got $100 and $50....not consistency.

Great ship by mcountsc

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Navigator of the seas was a great ship, the staff was great, the cabin very comfortable, excellent shower!  The only negative thing was the lack of free movies in the cabin, you had to pay $13.00 to watch a movie when other cruise lines we've been on play free movies in the cabin.  The food was excellent, the gym equipment was top notch.  The ports of call were nice, we rented a jeep in Cozumel and got ripped off getting gas, they charged $32.50 for a 1/4 tank, but what could we do?? Frustrating!!  Grand Caymen was wonderful, we rented bikes and stopped along the beach for a great lunch on the water.  Jamaica was ok, we went to Chukka park for zip lining, dune buggy ride and a very short boring float down a small stretch of river.  It was way to crowded so we didn't get to do all that was included in our excursion that we paid for.

Ok by FamilyCruise201

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The staff was great but the Main Dinning Food was just OK. No filet or lobster unless you pay extra. Even a burger at Johnny Rockets was extra.  Felt like they did nickle and dime you all week.

Great Cruise Experiance by bear2301

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

The Service was excellent. The Crew was great and wait Staff Exceeded my Expectations. The only negative thing was the Photo Department. We were sold a CD by a Staff member and was told to pick it up next day. We went twice that day and was told by 9:30pm next day. When we went to pick up was told there was no such thing as CD and they would be emailed. The Lady staff member told me everyone knew there would be no CD with Pictures on it.Making me feel stupid! She was very unprofessional and they need an Adult in Charge of that Department who can answer questions correctly.Other than that it was a wonderful experience.

Beautiful Ship, Fun Cruise, Expensive Wi-Fi by mbubel53

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

We had a great time on the Navigator despite bad weather out of Galveston and a shortened stay in Cozumel. Also make sure you grab a tender ticket early for the boat ride to shore in the Caymans. We got there late and did not get off the ship until after noon, shortening that shore excursion to about 3 1/2 hours. Food was very good. We ate at the main dining room every night. Service was excellent also. Don't buy Cuban cigars, immigration will confiscate. Then their is the Wi-Fi charge (without it no phone service), $40/day, ridiculous!

Good stops, and ease of boarding and departure.  We have been on the sister ship and liked that ship.  Dining room service was excellent.  Entertainment was average.

overpriced, over crowded EXPENSIVE by hannahinglis88

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Not what expected. The money that goes into it is definitely not worth it. Almost all activities on board have to paid for and they aren't affordable. What few shops they do have are highly overpriced and have no variety. The food is disgusting. I didn't have a single decent cup of coffee while on that boat. Also be aware that an outrageous gratuity percentage is slapped onto everything! 18% is outrageous not to mention that is in addition to the mandatory 12.50 per person per day!

Galveston Texas-West Caribbean Cruise by isosa02

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My family and I had a blast!

The housekeeping staff was a delight. The main waiter and assistant were outstanding. Now I know how BATMAN feels with his own personal butler. My wife and 2 sons were super happy. We enjoyed ice skating, climbing, golf, surfing, and relaxed in the pools and jacuzzi.

Overview of our experience - Navigator of the Sea - Belize, Cozemel, and Roatan by cferguson1964

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

1.  Dining room staff was fabulous - Eglin and Carl were kind courteous and efficient.  Made dining comfortable and enjoyable.

2.  Edwardo was an excellent cabin steward.  He made sure he took care of issues (toilet issues on our floor) quickly as well as arranged for the pressing of several of our garments.

3.  Excursions were run efficiently and safely and were beautiful.  Snorkling was fabulous.

4.  Shows were entertaining and appropriate.

5.  Bar tenders were knowledgeable and prepared.

6.  Please make sure that there is enough Starbucks Chi Tea onboard.  They ran out and several guests including me were disappointed as we had purchased the drink card that allowed us to have specialty drinks.

7.  Sometimes the food was a bit cold and I would bet did not temp correctly.

8.  The specialty restaurants were great with the Sabor and the Italian Restaurant rating the highest with our foursome.  Service was always fantastic.

9.  Information desk staff were courteous and knowledgeable.

We booked our next cruise on the Navigator next year!  Thank you for a great trip.

Great family fun cruise! by melcourcier

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

Our family had a terrific time on this cruise. There are many things to explore, shows were mostly good, ice rink and flowrider were entertaining.  The weather was terrific! This is the smoothest sailing experience yet, no sea-sickness, at all!  We would certainly do this cruise again and recommend these ports to others! The people encountered were friendly and helpful, at all the ports. We felt safe both on and off the boat! This is an experience everyone should enjoy!

western carribbean cruise by lucywarren

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

It was absolutely fabulous.  My only problem was trying to watch TV in bed.  I got a crick in my neck turning sideways to watch it and also trying to look over my husband's head to see it.  Did not have that problem last year.  The crew and staff were absolutely fabulous.   Already booked for Eastern Caribbean Cruise May 2016  Lori Girard was great in getting this booking for us.

Loved our cruise! by Kayce04

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Navigator of the Seas / Destination: Caribbean - Western

My husband and I took this cruise in May. We've been on 3 cruises before, Carnival and Norwegian. We prefer RCCL to both other companies. Carnival caters to a very young party-scene crowd (when we went we were 20 and still didn't like the clientele) and sometimes skimps on their cruise. Norwegian went over the top with hand washing on their ship making it obnoxious. On royal our ship was beautiful and clean, the crew was polite and helpful. The other people on the ship were kind and we only ever once came across someone who was obviously drunk (while on Carnival it was a daily experience). On Norwegian there were 8 kids under 18 and on this ship there were over 100 (we kept an eye on their kids programs because someday we want to take our children on a cruise with us). Our main complaints with RCCL were the food and activities. We always ate in the restaurant (only once at the buffet) and the food was just lackluster. Great variety and selection but the food itself was just alright. Also the activities on the ship were disappointing compared to Carnival and Norwegian. Most of the ship activities were either an additional fee or promotional (come watch this guy talk about health, come watch this guy talk about shopping). We're going to still book with the remaining companies to compare them all but at this point RCCL is superior.
