We love cruising and have cruised RCCI before - this one was not up to RCCI standards in our opinion. We traveled with some friends - this was their 2nd cruise - the other one was NCL. Overall, the NCL experience for them was a better experience and I would have to agree.
Embarkation
1 out of 5
In queue line for 2+ hours..... no advancement - no announcements. Asked three different people for a wheelchair for my husband... finally got one on the way to board the ship after standing on his foot for 3+ hours (just has foot surgery). Found the RCCI reps in the embarkation area rude. Those actually doing the checking in were great once we finally got there - the one is the boarding area were awful
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Food was excellent - drinks - very expensive. Dining room service seemed very disjointed - long waits between courses where no one even came around. Windjammer frequently made announcement that in effect said,.... please finish your meal and vacate.
Very little available between 4 and 6.
Ordered room service to be delivered between 6:30 and 7 - had to call twice - finally got it delivered around 7:35
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We ate here twice - both times the food was fantastic - again, service seemed disjointed/sporadic at best
Entertainment
3 out of 5
The musicians we heard were wonderful! Dave, the piano player and the ships orchestra particularly.
There are not enough options to listen to quiet music onboard. The piano music is a couple of hours either very early or very late - nothing in between. The band playing on the promenade on the last sea day was awful
Children's Programs
2 out of 5
We saw four of the seven shows.... three were awful. They came off like high school performances.
The ships orchestra/singers were fantastic in their own right.... the production shows just didn't have the zing they usually have
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
Service was overall mediocre at best mostly because of the dining service. The cabin steward was fantastic, but nothing else really stood out.
Not being able to get a wheelchair at embarkation started the whole process.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
Ship is showing it's age. Paint was chipping off on our balcony.... many areas could use some sprucing up.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The balcony was fabulous - our room steward was amazing!
The size of the room was perfect
Ship tip
You will wait a very long time for the elevators. There are many areas of the ship that you have to go down a deck - through someplace else and then back up to get where you need to be.
Way too much selling.
