Review summary

This review is for the MSC Seaside, 4 night cruise from Port Canaveral to Nassau and Ocean Cay, September 24th-28th, 2023. Our cabin number was 9200. This is a balcony cabin. Pros: --------------------------------------------------------------------- The bread, vegetables and salads in the Marketplace buffet are good. The comedian in the theatre (Patrick Keane) was very good. He gave an unusual fast paced comedy routine. The Moondance show in the theatre was good. The Trio Latin Sugar band was the best band on the ship. They played a nice variety of Latin music. The private island (Ocean Cay) is very clean and has a great beach. Cons: --------------------------------------------------------------------- The water pressure in the cabin shower was very poor. The elevator control system is ridiculous. The new system is slow and the technology tends to shove everyone into the same elevator which promotes overcrowding. And you can't change your mind because there are no buttons inside. The ship design is overly complicated. You cannot get anywhere easily. There is no easy path for walkers to walk around the ship. The acoustics in the atrium is terrible. Due to the placement of the musicians on deck #6, the music sounds terrible for those on deck #5. Ping pong table is located in the solarium. It's very hot in there so we didn't want to play long. I would NOT recommend cabin #9200 to anyone who is a light sleeper. This is a balcony cabin that emits a light but consistent banging sound near the wall that connects to the sliding door. Note: this banging sound cannot be heard when the ship is in port (i.e. not moving). This banging sound only occurs when the ship is moving. We lost a lot of sleep on this cruise because the ship is moving at night when we were "trying" to sleep. Note that this noise was NOT due to the partition doors on the balcony which I checked and they were securely locked. I would rate the pizza, hamburgers and desserts in the Marketplace buffet as below average. Carnival cruise lines does much better on these types of foods. Note: cookies are only served in the Biscayne Bay buffet starting at 10:00PM. Make sure you get there early as they run out of the "good" fresh baked cookies within the first 10 minutes. After that you get only get hard day old or thawed out cookies. Note that Carnival cruise lines has fresh baked cookies all day long. The Haven lounge has an A/C problem. It's always hot in there and when you ask one of the staff to adjust the A/C they just ignore you. I even asked guest services to help with this but they were no help. Ballroom hour (6:00 -7:00PM in the Haven lounge) listed in the program as: "from foxtrot to tango" is false advertising. On both the second and third nights of our 4 night cruise the only music played was CHA CHA. That's right, song after song (I left after 10 CHA CHA songs in a row). So boring! This is very embarassing for the music director, he/she should be fired! Note, during this time there is no DJ present and it's just some CD they haphazardly threw on that played through the ships sound system. I heard better "dance" music played on their private island (Ocean Cay) through the in-ground speakers located all over the island! I spoke with guest services (they were very rude and said it was only my opinion that the music was boring). I also spoke with both of the dance teachers on board (Diane and Bryan) and they said it was not there problem. And I spoke with one of the ships sound technicians and he said they normally play 4 of they same dance rhythms in a row. So it appears that no one knows how to play dance music on this ship. Oh, I take that back, the best dance music on the ship was played in the theatre (where we are not allowed to dance) because its only for the ships dancers. I was not the only one who complained about the music. One of the other couples that we met in the Haven lounge wrote a note about the problem and left it for one of the staff. I will not recommend this ship to any of my dancing friends. Warning, be very careful when walking on the concrete sidewalks of the private island (Ocean Cay). Every few minutes you must jump out of the way of fast moving golf carts. It's very unnerving to keep looking over your shoulder as they run up on you fast. Note that lemonade is only served at lunchtime in the buffet area. If you want lemonade served all day, then try Carnival, NCL or Royal Carribean cruise lines. The Fusion Groove Band that played in the Haven Lounge was just average. Please have someone teach them some new songs as they play the same songs every night. Also please have someone teach them some new rhythms as many of their songs have the same rhythm (boring). In summary, I would NOT suggest booking this particular MSC ship again until improvements are made.

Sorry just noticed you said music director and not cruise director but I still think your complaint that they should be fired is ridiculous.

You seriously want to fire the cruise director for not having great ballroom knowledge? Sorry I can’t take you seriously. The people you complained to were right, it’s YOUR opinion that the music was boring and they can’t change the entertainment on a whim to suit one person. Maybe read your review back and actually listen to yourself!

Too long of a review, seems to be all complaints, but I may have missed the positive, I got bored reading this.
