Food Portions in the main restaurants... by julieNmike

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Musica

Food Portions in the main restaurants are very small - not a bad thing when you’re on a 24 night Cruise. The standard of what we had was pretty average though. Anyway, You’ve always got the bistro if you’re really hungry but the quality of the food isn’t as ‘good’ as in the main restaurants. We did like the fact that there were many evenings focussed on specific regions - Mediterranean Night; Asian night, and on countries too, China, Brazil,, Greece etc. Astonishingly though, water in the main dining room is only available if paid for! Not a Cruise to book if you’re looking for steak or lobster... or something to wash your meal down with. Staff We found the MSC staff to be universally excellent, all went above be and beyond and delivered everything and more that we asked for. We really like that MSC allow their crew to bring family on board when in their home port. Says staff actively looked to introduce children etc to their ‘customers’ which was really nice for both sides. Entertainment Very average. Only two acts (in 24 nights) we could really say we enjoyed, a classical quartet and three tenors from South Africa. Theres only one real band who were quite good, but no ships orchestra. The several examples of a singer and a guitarist noodling along to recorded backing tracks wore a bit thin after about 10 days. Ships dancers were fair, but only to recorded music, but the male - and especially the female - lead singers were very disappointing indeed. Wonderland in the main theatre was an extravaganza based on Alice in Wonderland which was good - if different - and featured jugglers, acrobats and other types of entertainers. Ok if you like that sort of thing. Drinks package Very limited, though it always was going to be at about £21 per day. Heineken beer, two whites, two reds and a rose wine ‘carefully selected by our sommelier’. They will be the cheapest then. Good selection of standard sprits and a dozen or so cocktails plus bottled water, teas and coffees and proper scooped ice cream with about 12 varying varieties made on board to choose from. Service. Bar service generally very good, but on the pool deck bars it could be annoying when waiting staff took your order, put it through the till and then passed it to ‘bar staff’. It was often difficult to know who was getting your drinks, and of course, the bar staff were serving their own customers too. Wifi Utterly pathetic. The staff blamed the satellite - the usual excuse when at sea, but it was the same when in port. We’ve been in this part of the world before with no major internet issues. To quantity this, the best WiFi we had over the entire 24 nights was on a coach to Petra! Other points We did like the pool deck sun beds that incorporate a ‘sun visor’ and the pool area in general is very nice apart from a large smoking area on the port side. Also, speaking as something of an old fart, I particularly liked the fact that there was no constant ‘boom boom’ rubbish music on the pool deck! There is an exclusive top16 deck area for suite guests at the front of the ship that was always empty. This was opened up to us peasants - at a daily cost. It stayed empty. For the more energetic: the gym is small and there is no specific running track anywhere on the ship. Conclusions Nice ship, great itinerary, superb staff, poor food and average (but cheap) drinks package. If you’re on a budget, MSC might well tick the boxes. If you want quality, you’ll have to spend more, I’m afraid...

Loud, Italian-minded but non invalid-minded cruise by tinnie67

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: MSC Musica / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

We were very dissapointed because everything was overcrowded at breakfast and lunch. At the pool with so much loud noise of hard music and screaming entertainers. It was a shame you could not sit and enjoy the seaview without loud music. A lot of people stayed in their rooms to have some quietness. Too crowded and too loud boat. Ashame because we expected a Nice and quiet holiday. Never again on the MSC!!!! The crew were nice but information was terrible.

OMG, where do I start?... by boeing1

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Musica

OMG, where do I start? Musica ship!! Disembarkation was a mess at port of Venice, busy and no clear mention of what deck would board next. When we did board, it was like meat thrown at the lions!! What a circus of a show of staff trying to make to buy packages of drinks, tours and food. It was a absolutely degracefull experience on the musica ship on entering the ship To be hounded like we were and we clearly said, we weren't interested in these extra activities,it was a horrible experience to our start of our cruise. The speakers were so loud with announments, they we couldn't even think straight and thought, what have we booked! A circus show! No show of luggage, still at 7pm, had to go to dinner in my day clothes and most people were in this position as well. Luggage show up at 9.30pm at my room door. That was day 1 !! I could go on and on and tell you in full detail about my 7 day hell experience on this ship but I will keep it short and sweet. Every day, there was a issues with the ship, vibrating, the floor was vibrating so much, it took me the whole week too forget about it. From being chatted up by a staff bar member on day 1 to incompetent staff selling me 2 right feet shoes in the shops, to a security tag being left on my bag purchase to being burnt by hot steam from breakfast bairnmarie, to be given meal at dinner, that was not edible at all on day 2.Many staff were incompetent, apart from my first room lady steward and reception staff were amazing to me. Smoke was coming into my room, deck 11, from deck 13,where guests could smoke and I was moved to another room. Everyday was a issues on this ship, that is so old now, that it needs to be replaced. Some staff took cakes from my room on day 6,left balcony door opened on my return morning out. I had enough by this stage with management and it was a worst experience on a ship, I've ever encountered and thank god fantasia ship, that followed after was a great experience. I don't reccommmad musica ship to anyone, what a waste of money and leaving me with a experience that will take me a long time to get over. ELISA . Australia.

Nice itinerary, decent ship, poor quality food. by Deci

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Musica / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

Overall, it was a good cruise. Main reason we chose it was because of the port destinations. All destinations were good and worth calling to. Good choice of excursions also, if quite expensive to do some of the cruiseline-excursions. With regards to the ship, it was quite nice, with good outdoor pool area. Staff were friendly and always smiling. The only exception is the Guest Services-Reception staff who are quite bad and fail to resolve some very simple issues. Always a large queue to speak to them which doesn't help your frustration. If I was to go on another cruise, the one thing that would stop me booking with MSC again is the quality of the food. It was unacceptable in my opinion and I'm not a fussy eater, quite the opposite. Most nights the food was barely edible, while every night I couldn't help think I could do a better job. A school canteen would have nicer food. Apart from the food, the cruise was quite good and I enjoyed it.

This was our first sailing... by alexia9899

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Musica

This was our first sailing on MSC Musica. We had a fabulous sailing last year on the Divina so decided to try a Med cruise. The ship was clean and most of the staff was excellent and friendly. The MDR was excellent and our wait staff did an amazing job. Our waiter always took extra time and created some beautiful napkin animals for my daughter and she loved them. He really went out of his way. Our cabin stewardess did a good job with our room. My only complaint is they way she spoke to me. On 3 occasions I had a small request; such as replacing pool towels for one. She on all 3 occasions spoke down to me as I was a child. I let it go the first 2 times, but after 3 I couldn't keep quiet. I don't allow my children to speak to me like that I'm certainly not going to allow someone else. Soo of course when I address the matter with her superior she wouldn't even look at me or speak to me from that point. Oh well treat people like you want to be treated is how I was raised. Otherwise the cruise itself was excellent. Only one suggestion to MSC is I would have more daily variety in the buffet. It gets old after 8 days.

Cabin Number 9188 I have not... by laineyx

Cabin Number 9188 I have not slept a wink all week due to noises such as squeaking, tapping, knocking and vibrating- you could feel every movement in the this ship - I would have understood if the sea was rough but it wasn’t.

Went from Rio to Venice... by gohunter

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Musica

Went from Rio to Venice on the Musica in March 2018. We both absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!!! A very stylish ship with the usual Italian design. Warm friendly staff. Good food and great service. Excellent bands in the lounges every night and some very good theatre shows too. The clientele were around 60% Brazilian, so we had fantastic selections of bossa novas, sambas, tangos, rumbas, etc. Real feel good music! Dance hosts too, who kept getting the guests up on the floor and who were amazingly good when they did some show dances together. Of course, the bands also mixed in plenty of European pop too for the 700 or so of us who were not from Brazil. Out of 24 cruises on 11 different cruise lines, this has to be one of my all time favourites.

Good cruise, although food could be better by JWCRUISER

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: MSC Musica / Destination: Transatlantic

we do cruise the Grand Voyages with MSC as the ports of call are usually very good. We would not book MSC for food quality - as that is always hit and miss, and I would say on the Musica it has been the worst so far on our MSC cruises. The ship itself and the cabin is all very nice, and service and organisation were reasonable. We have another MSC cruise booked for 2018 and again it is primarily for the ports of call.

Seen better days. Where to... by akire

Sail date: /
Ship: MSC Musica

Seen better days. Where to start? Only one speciality restaurant. Entertainment in daytime is at best the less you can do, the better. Entertainment at night; they have talents, but the show planner lacks imagination in variety and in substance. 3 shows out of 7 were 8/10, the rest 6. Cabin is ok, but lacking essential stuff like a real shower, not a curtain!!! Lots of mechanical noise. Good size dos balcony stateroom. Now the food; I have a been on cruises, maybe 6-7, this is the worst of all... lack variety, lack taste, lack presentation and most of all, lack size. Excursions were ok... guides good, Leece, Katakolon. Overall, after two MSC cruises, I am sadly done.

Needs Work, But A Good Experience Overall by Ryshkin

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (young children)
Ship: MSC Musica / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The accommodations, food choices, and nightly shows were very good. The ship was comfortable and functioned without fail or error. The prices for excursions (through third parties, I believe) were affordable and worthwhile.

Unfortunately, the service at the pool bar was slow and sometimes without care for the customer. Also, the service at the wine bar was disgusting as one waitress got physically pushy with my wife and a barman refused to serve a member of our party "claiming the bar was closed" while proceeding to serve another group directly after. On the bright side, the management teams were quick to respond, offer apologies (once with an offer of a bottle of champagne, which we declined), and assure us that they would use the situations as a learning experience for all, in hopes of improving future service.

Additionally, the children's program was not at all what was advertised. The ship offered groups for different age groups, but the first day, we left our 8 & 11 year olds for almost 5 hours expecting them to be in the "Junior's Club" (7-11 year olds). Instead, they spent the entire evening in the "Mini-Club" with preschool aged children. We gave it another go on another night, where the kids got about an hour in the "Junior's Club" but were later moved back into the "Mini-Club" to finish out the night. The ladies that worked within the clubs (similar to childcare providers) were very patient and good with the children, we feel the failure was with the programs and maybe a lack of personnel to attend each club as advertised.

Overall, we had a good experience. We enjoyed our days at sea, the all-inclusive drink package and our excursions off the boat. We would like to say that the staff in the Il Tucano Lounge did an EXCELLENT job and truly put "service with a smile" to the test; specifically: Gleese, Bartender at Il Tucano , and the servers Mary (Bali), Kaiye (Philippines), and Olga (Romania).

I would say give MSC a try, but maybe look into other cruise ships beyond the "Musica". A few of the better ships were mentioned in the MSC Cruises 2016 Annual Report (you can expect to pay more, of course, for those).

I have been in many cruise, Royal, Carnival and the services the food the logistics and the crew are much better that in MSC. The restaurant have the same food, that they serving in the buffet. The night of the captain you have to paid for the lobster and the steak is ridiculous. The crew are very rude and the services is very poor. I don't recommend this company.

some suggestions by nobodiesname

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: MSC Musica / Destination: Europe - Eastern Mediterranean

The staff's enthusiasm and ability to work with passengers.  There needs to be some training on recognition of errors in Ship card when status sliver card Aurea  and which does not agree with numerical code 601 or 609 when should be 431. Many staff persons assumed numerical code was correct but fortunately a few others did not although it took a while to get the coding error identified not by service desk but future reservation staff and then error was promptly corrected. Also need some training on forms for laundry and need for customer keeping one copy when submitting
