Review summary

We introduced our son and daughter-in-law to cruising on this trip. They really enjoyed it, and we hope that this will be the first of many for them. This survey is rating my responses at 3.5, not sure why. I actually give it a solid 4 out of 5.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
No problems at all getting through other than just a lot of people, but the lines moved fast. Much better now that the COVID restrictions have been lifted.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Most meals were good-really good, only one that I’d call great.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Pools were great, no shortage of hot tubs even with that many people.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Musicians in the main theater were fantastic, but the shows themselves were about average. It seems the days of really good broadway type shows are gone.

Children's Programs

Our kids are grown.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Everyone on the staff that we came in contact with was very friendly and eager to please.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Meraviglia is the largest ship we’ve ever been on (7 others), and it is very very big. Took a little longer than usual to learn our way around, but it’s a beautiful ship. It has some very intriguing features, like the promenade on Deck 6 with the electronic reader board ceiling … Very cool! The main theater is the smallest of any ship we’ve been on and you had to reserve tickets to the shows. I was originally concerned about this, but it turned out to be a non-issue as they never completely filled the seats. You can reserve general admission passes up to two days in advance, but seating is first come first serve.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Loved our cabin. Surprisingly spacious compared to all other shops we’ve been on. The open floor concept in the middle of the room provided plenty of space to adequately move around.

Ship tip

Meraviglia has a separate theater at the aft of the ship for Cirque du Soleil type of events. If you want to see these shows book it prior to embarking an you’ll save money ($12 before, $18 during). Two issues with this, I feel like these are the types of shows that used to be included and located in the main theater. Also, if you go to one of these shows you most likely have to skip the show that night I’m the main theater, and if you book ahead of time you won’t know which one you’re skipping. We paid more by booking on board, but we were able to pick which show we were missing.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
Embarkation and disembarkation … Not much to tell. We flew in to Orlando the night before and shuttled over to the port on the morning of the cruise.

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
Likes this a lot, had been several years since visiting Nassau, a lot of new construction at the pier. We rented a Can-Am vehicle and drove to the end of the island to Jaws Beach. Very secluded and private.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas

5 out of 5
Absolutely love Ocean Cay. Very quiet, plenty of space to either be alone on the beach at the far side or with a lot of people on the near side. They’ve done a great job with this. It will never have roller coasters and water slides, it’s intended as a marine reserve.

Belize City, Belize

5 out of 5
We really enjoyed Belize, this was our second time visiting but not since 2006, so we didn’t remember much about it. We took a tour of the Mayan ruins that we booked on our own right as we got off the ship and had no problems at all, and saved a lot of money. Beautiful country with a very interesting history. Tip: You have to tender in on fairies here and you have to reserve a ticket for the fairies. Be there at 7:00 AM to get the lowest number you can, otherwise you might have to wait a while to leave the ship. The ship anchors about 5 miles out, so it takes a 15-20 minutes to get in.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
We love Cozumel but this was not our best visit. It rained hard all day. We had booked a kayak-snorkeling excursion that was cancelled, so we rented a Jeep and drove around in the rain. Ate lunch at a really cool local cantina, which there are no shortage of, and did some shopping. Plenty of shopping, don’t be afraid to barter. We got soaked and stayed wet most of the day, but we still had a great time.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We did the “express disembarkation” and it went very smoothly.
