Review summary

We had a wonderful first family cruise on MSC. The ship was clean and very updated. Food was great in the main dining room but the buffet was sometimes not so good. We missed one of our ports due to bad weather but that couldn't be helped. The bars and lounges offered plenty of seating and the bar staff was always very friendly and got our drinks out right away. I feel the kids area was lacking activities because our 10 yr old kept saying he was bored but our older teen children always found things to do. The broadway theater shows are some of the best we have ever seen on a cruise ship. I would definitely recommend this ship if looking for a great value and want to experience cruising.

Embarkation

It was long since it was a holiday cruise the ship was fully booked, so it took over 2 hours to board but boarding process was easy to do.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Buffet was lacking for breakfast but the main dining room for lunch and dinner was always good. We were able to find something to eat on the menus everyday.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We attended all the shows. This ship had some of the best shows I've seen compared to other cruise lines. Our children went to the waterpark, slides, pools and children's area. They were lacking with the entertainment though during the day.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Some of the best shows we have been to and we have been on many cruises just me and my husband. The performers in the main theater were wonderful! Now the other areas of the ship the singers, dancers and performers were not as good.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
They really enjoyed the LEGO themed kids club. Our teenagers attended the teen club everyday and met lots of other teens to hang out with.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All staff we met were very professional, courteous and nice the entire time. At every bar they came and asked what drinks we wanted and we got immediate service.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was very clean and they were always going around cleaning it through out the day. The layout was nice but did not like the hallways how they jutted out and had a hard time getting to the stairs. Also, the atrium area was very plain except for the crystal stairs and it felt very closed in.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
It was a very comfortable cabin and was plenty big enough for 4 passengers. The aft balcony was very nice and had good views. Our cabin steward always had it made up very well. He even changed the pack-n-play crib sheets daily.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5
Easy to park and get on the cruise. The terminal was crowded since this was a holiday cruise there were tons of people boarding. We got there a little after 12noon and did not board until 3pm.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas Did not visit port

Water was too choppy and strong current so Captain could not dock

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Excellent shops! We got to see flamingoes, have a nice Mexican lunch, and enjoy some time on the beach.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
It was easy and smooth to get off the ship, no issues.
