Beautiful ship but severely under staffed.

Review summary

This could be considered the cruise from hell because of the lack of information provided by the staff. We were 5 days at sea without knowing if we were going to be able to dock anywhere. On the positive side, MSC gave us a full refund and 20% off our next cruise. I will take advantage of the offer but sail a different ship.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was smooth as can be

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Main dining room food was subpar. Out of the 7 day there was only 1 meal we enjoyed. The buffet food was the same for all 7 days. They did not make an attempt to make a variation of dishes.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
There were onboard activities but nothing that caught my eye.

Entertainment

I didn’t go to any of the shows. They did not interest me.

Children's Programs

I don’t have any children.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
We had many many issues while onboard. The service desk representative were overwhelmed and you can tell they were frustrated which in turn provided a bad customer experience. I will say that the Bartenders at the Horizon Bar were awesome. Especially Jade and Greg. However, their manager does not belong in a position to assist people. She was rude and walked around with a puss on her face.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Everything was so clean

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Overall it was a regular balcony cabin. Nothing out of the ordinary from other cruise lines.

Ship tip

The Meraviglia attracts a lot of Europeans especially French and Italians. You will need to have plenty of patience as they can be rude and have no concept of personal space.

Ports of call

Ocho Rios, Jamaica Did not visit port

Jamaica denied us entry due to a crew member and passengers having the flu.

George Town, Grand Cayman Did not visit port

Grand Cayman denied us also because of the sick crew member.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We were able to dock and disembark in Cozumel after the their health department cleared us. Had a great time at Señor Frogs.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, Bahamas Did not visit port

We skipped Ocean Cay due to the delay in Cozumel with clearing the ship.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Smooth sailing through Customs

Not the ship, or Captain's fault, really. I would still sail the same ship, your particular instance may just have been a sign of the times. We're on it this July, I'll provide follow-up.
