Ship: MSC Grandiosa

Cabin type: Balcony

Cabin number: 9195

Review summary

The ship was a good way to get from place to place, but not the best experience. Will use another line if we ever cruise the Med again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The best part of the cruise. Since they embark and disembark at every port, there was no line and it was super fast and efficent. Cabin was ready when we checked in and luggage delivered within the hour

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Main dining room and buffet food was poor in both selection and flavor. Buffet was open and serving at random, unpredictable times and selections barely differed. The highlight was the fresh mozzarella that they make on the ship and the pizza. Dinner selections were strange, the portions tiny and the meals offered were not balanced. Drinks were overpriced and under liquered.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The only organized activities were dancing lessons with the slimy staff.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Musicians were good, and Cirque de Soliel was excellent. Extra charge for Cirque and premium priced dinner entree was gross.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
Service was poor.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Overall -beautiful brand new ship, understated decor, soothing color pallates. The buffet flow was extremely poor and difficult to navigate and the seating area felt like a 3rd rate cafeteria and was poorly serviced.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Plenty of storage, comfortable bed, nice room and bathroom

Ship tip

Expect to pay for everything on this ship outside of meals between very select hours.

Ports of call

Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy

5 out of 5
Loved Rome - but experienced before and after the cruise and not as an excursion

Palermo, Sicily

2 out of 5
Rainy day made it difficult. City hard to navigate and sketchy.

Valletta, Malta

5 out of 5
Gorgeous and well worth the full day of walking around and exploring

Barcelona, Spain

4 out of 5
Should have done an excursion - city too big and too much to see in a couple of hours.

Marseille (Provence), France

5 out of 5
Took an excursion to the Luberon Valley - highlight of the trip. Well worth the cost of the personal tour

Genoa, Italy

3 out of 5
Wanted to go the Portofino, but the boats do not operate in the winter. Took a taxi up the coast about 15 minutes to a quaint village for a leisurely lunch. Spent very little time in Genoa.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Fast, early, easy
