Review summary

Ship is clean and staff are all great, always smiling. Drinks are strong, no water down drinks. Food was great. Get rid of Costa Maya. Add more time at Conzumel. I’ve been on a Disney Cruise and they also have a private island. But everything was included, we did not have to pay extra for things other than motorized activities like para sailing and jet skies. But $40 to rent a snorkel set for a day? And only till 3:40 pm, even though we can stay in the island till 11 pm. But we can even swim in the lagoon cuz the life guards are removed by 5 pm and everything closes by 5 pm. So why stay at the island for two days?? Pay for an umbrella on the lagoon side? I felt that for the price we ended up paying by the end of the trip which was around $ 2300 in addition to the booking price, we could have gone on Disney Cruise again or Norwegian Cruises.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

The steak house was great, main dining room was beautiful. Drink packages were a bit pricey. Especially if you are not there to drink alcohol all the time. But the few that we had were strong. So I guess they were good.

Onboard Activities

They were ok. Pools were Clean but small. Staff always tried to encourage participation in games and activities

Entertainment

The last show, Extreme was awesome you can’t miss it. Comedian was fun, magician was ok, I think better for the kids. All bar performers were great.

Service and Staff

Our waiters, Ivan and Risky were the best. Always paid attention to detail. Smiling, friendly even when we made a mess spilling coffee on the table. Food was great, but the service was superb. Our cabin steward, Kenneth, was always helpful and had our room ready twice a day.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

Very comfortable, a bit small for four people but it was an inside cabin. The only problem we had was the construction that was going on the first two days. They would start at 8 am but my family and would stay in bed till 11 am. Hard to wake up early after going to bed at 2 am. After the second day I complained and they compensated us by apologizing and giving us a free bottle of Champaign which we found in our room upon returning at night. So that was nice. But everything work, water pressure, hot water and a/c worked. No Tv 😥. The cable never worked. Maybe they were trying to get us out of the room to buy stuff in the ship, lol

Ship tip

When heading to the private island, ocean Cay. Go the beach by the light house. And go early to get an umbrella and chairs in the beach. It’s first come first served but worth it. The beach has waves and it’s clean. The lagoon is dirty, it looks like a lake. You have to pay for an umbrella and they close the Buffett and bar around 4 pm. Not worth it if you are like me who wakes up late and has brunch at 11 am.

Too expensive. Better to stay two days at conzumel.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Why even stop here?? I rather go to skid row in Cali. OMG, it was dirty, smelled, and if you sneeze you miss the little down town area. Not sure if it cost less for MSC to port here verses two days at Conzumel. It’s sad as a Mexican I’m ashamed for American tourists to think that is what Mexico looks like!! Please. Tijuana is cleaner than this place. Just stay on the boat if you end up at Costa Maya or stay in the Port. The port has a nice pool and shops and restaurants. Don’t go outside the port.

Cozumel, Mexico

Perfect.. enough said!!! Need more time at this port. If you try to go to a resort line Playa Mia or Mr Sancho’s, do it when you get there. Don’t buy it from the ship’s excursions. It’s a waste. They pick you up around 11 am, you get there and settle down by noon and need to be back on the bus by 3:45pm. They say it’s a 5 hr excursion cuz they count transpiration time. If you do it on your own, take a cab at 8 am when you are allow to leave the boat. It’s a 15 min cab drive. Tickets cost the same there and if you buy the all inclusive you have about 7 hrs of free food and drinks vs 4 hrs with the excursion. They resort opens from 9-5 but need to be back on the ship by 4:30

Quick and easy. But we didn’t have a full boat so not sure how it is when there are more people
