Review summary

Yacht Club was a major disappointment. Ship is beautiful but crowded. Weather was bad (very windy), so late into some ports. Ports are crowded because all the mega ships go to the same ports (45,000+ people dumped on San Juan while we were there.)

Embarkation

2 out of 5
We were in Yacht Club so had private embarkation area. We could not get the cab driver to understand where to drop us off and rent-a-cops were clueless. MSC needs to communicate that there are two entryways.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
YC service in the dedicated lounge was exceedingly slow. YC dedicated restaurant menu is good but limited. Buffet was good. Butcher’s Cut (extra charge) was good.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Spa services were good. Photographers were good.

Photo Gallery

Excellent staff. Excellent photos. Packages can be pricey.

MSC Yacht Club

Overpriced and overrated. Butlers are glorified waiters. Service was slow. Service was faster and more friendly outside the Yacht Club. Don’t waste your money.

Service and Staff

1 out of 5
Yacht Club butler was useless. Service in Yacht Club Top Sail Lounge was slow. Staff outside Yacht Club was much friendlier.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Yacht Club restaurant is aft, cabins and lounge are forward.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
A bit smaller than I expected - but has a walk-in closet. One pillow case had what looked like a bloodstain on it, and was quickly replaced by another stained pillowcase. Bed is comfortable but not really king-size. Pillows are great.

Ship tip

It will feel crowded.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

No excursions - stayed one night at Intercontinental downtown (great hotel.) Cabs could not get to Yacht Club dedicated entry. Used MSC transfer to FLL after cruise - A/C was out on bus, but fast.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

2 out of 5
Eight ships in port. Mob scene. We went to Barrachina for dinner and pina coladas - make reservations! We arrived at 4pm and barely made our 7:30pm reservations.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

4 out of 5
Did the Mini Virgin Islands boat tour. Fun cruise on a catamaran to view many of the smaller islands of the BVI.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
Did the Airport Adventures SXM excursion. Boat goes out (half-hour ride) to Maho Beach to swim, snorkel and watch planes land. Big planes land mid-afternoon so missed them. Short day in port.

Nassau, Bahamas

4 out of 5
Went to Senor Frogs for lunch. Tacos and alcohol.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Waited and waited for our butler to escort us off the ship. Finally asked, and staff said, “Oh, are you ready to go?” The last communications problem of the week.
