Review summary

Not being sure if it is something for this area or time of year or just happened. The clouds were low and on every island clouds touched the mountain tops, it looked very interesting and nice. The most international passengers of any cruise we have taken that departs and returns to the same port. At our dinner table we sat with a Hungarian couple who speaks very little English and we do not speak any Hungarian. They were very nice but we had a hard time communicating. As usual the crew was international and the crew that deals with passengers spoke English but some were hard to understand, especially the captain with his announcements. The speaker in our cabin and others that we talked with did not work.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Main dining rooms looked nice and the food was fine, no lobster. Did not go to any specialty restaurants. The buffet was huge but average and mostly had the same food items. No chocolate buffet.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
They enforced no drinking, food or glass in the pools and hot tubs and no kids in the adult area. Some may not like this but we really appreciated this.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The most professional crew singers and dancers that we have seen (16 or so cruises). There was no stand up comedy which I look forward to on a cruise. This may have been due to this particular cruise had a Jazz Fest in the back lounge every day, not sure.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Excellent room steward. The waiter (same one every night, same table, same time) did not speak great English and every dinner was at least 1.5 hours. Prefer any time dining, not assigned time, table and waiter.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This ship was huge compared to what we are used to. For a ship this size there should probably be more elevators (not an option) and some of the elevator doors closed before you could get to them 15 feet away (could be fixed). The ship was very clean and maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our cabin was a large balcony with a queen sized pull out couch. Bed was comfortable. The balcony was small but had a door to access the next cabin with our relatives.

Ship tip

If you can find an option for any time dining (or whatever MSC calls it), take it.

Ports of call

Miami, Florida

4 out of 5
No excursion, just the port to depart and return. Used off site parking for the first time. Getting there was fine but it took over 2 hours for the shuttle to pick us up to get back to the garage.

St. John's, Antigua

4 out of 5
Typical South Eastern Caribbean island. Quick tour to see the sites and culture.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

4 out of 5
Typical South Eastern Caribbean island. Quick tour to see the sites and culture.

Tortola, British Virgin Islands

4 out of 5
We did not do an excursion on this port, just walked around the town.

Pointe-A-Pitre, Guadeloupe

4 out of 5
It is French

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

5 out of 5
The most to do of any of the island ports on this cruise.

Disembarkation

It may have been fine otherwise but there was a hold up with customs. We stood in a HUGE long line waiting to get off of the ship. Once the line started it went fine.
