Overall we had a great itinerary, but the ship could have been better, and I recommend buying your excursions from MSC not American Airlines. You can buy them at a discount from the carrier if you buy them earlier
Embarkation
5 out of 5
Easy and spacious, and the staggered boarding meant short lines
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
3 out of 5
Minimal buffet choices, both location and menu. The dining room basically had the same items daily with a few added choices.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Pools were small and overcrowded. They did have a splash park for the children, if you have them with you
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Stage shows and musical acts / DJ's were great
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
As always, the staff was abundant and helpful. No tipping until the last day. I was not pleased with the attitude of the reception staff, who seemed less than accommodation and kind of rude the couple of times I stopped there.
Ship Quality
4 out of 5
Easy to maneuver, as there wasn't much to look for. The ship was fairly clean for the most part.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
The room itself was decent size, but the bathroom was smaller than I've seen in the past. The shower was too small for me, and the only other shower that I could have used was in the spa, and I would have had to pay $159 to use it. Also, the sliding door to the balcony wouldn't open half the time, even after maintenance looked at it
Ship tip
Take a fan. The air conditioning was undersized for the hot climate we were in. The A/C in the barely allowed me to get a good nights sleep.
Costa Maya was great, but outside of excursions, I didn't see much to do. We did the Chechoban Pyramid tour through Native Choice that is a local company, and they were awesome. Very informative and accommodating!
Cozumel was awesome and had so much you could do! We ended up with a bate and switch excursion through Jungle Jeep Adventures, which was supposed to be a Jeep tour to a cavern and snorkeling. They put us in a Jeep with another couple, which was not what we paid for. Why do you ask what type of vehicle you want to drive (auto/manual) if you're not going to be in your own Jeep. They took us to a town to show us around, and had us visit a souvenir shop in that town, then to a tequila "museum" both of which were just a way to get us to spend more money. They then took us to the cavern, and ended up visiting the spot for ten minutes. We then proceeded to the snorkeling, which ended up being a restaurant, where we could spend more money waiting for our "guide." We then got to snorkel for about thirty minutes, which was BS! I suggest staying away from Jungle Jeep Adventures at all cost!
Havana was beautiful, interesting and sad all at the same time. American Airlines sold us an excursion that started at 11 am, but the ship didn't even dock until after 11. We were able to take the tour in the convertible Chevy through Urban Adventure, who I highly recommend. We went on Sunday to do the walking tour, only to find out it was actually scheduled for Saturday, so we lost our money. Maybe that was my fault, but American Airlines should know the ships arrival time, and that you have to take excursions both days, so why sell two of them the same day.
They made us leave our room by 8:30, but we couldn't get off the ship until 11:30. We had to wait among the other 2000-people trying to get off the ship, which to me was incomprehensible.
