Review summary
Review: 9/6- 9/9 We arrived at the port the day before the cruise. We stayed at the country inn and suites, and took the shuttle from there to the port on Friday morning. As the ship had actually come in the day before due to the hurricane cruise, we were able to check in and get on the ship by 1045. We were able to go straight to our room, put our things away, and we’re having lunch by 11 o’clock on the nose. We weren’t overly impressed by the food in the wind jammer for the lunch, but it wasn’t bad. My husband enjoyed the fried chicken, well I had some prime rib. Everything seemed very fresh, it just wasn’t overly tasty. We had the soda package, and really appreciated receiving the 50th anniversary cups as part of that. For dinner that first night, and each night there after, we went to the main dining room. We found plenty of a selection to make us happy, and the one time I did not like what I was served, they quickly changed it out for something different. We did feel like the portions were more than adequate, even if the food wasn’t especially tasty. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t over-the-top fantastic. We did not visit the buffet at dinner time, or for the late night offering, so I can’t comment on that. We snacked A few times at the promenade café. My husband enjoyed the poundcake from there, well I enjoyed the pizza as well as the fresh fruit. For Breakfast, we visited the main dining room twice, and then the wind jammer once. We much preferred the breakfast served to us in the dining room. What we really found lacking on this voyage, were the daily activities. We’ve been on other cruises, both Royal Caribbean and others, where there have been many things to do throughout the day and the evening. It seemed like this cruise was more about the ports, and less about those who wanted to be on the ship doing things. Very few trivia options, very few entertainment options… It just seemed “boring” in comparison to all of the other cruises we’ve been on. Would we do it again? Maybe - if the goal was to just hang out and relax. But, honestly, we liked the ship - very clean, staff very friendly - we just didn’t find ourselves enjoying the daily itinerary. If we find that the Mariner is going to be doing a different type of sailing, we would probably book to be on her again.Embarkation
