This was our first cruise, and we loved it. We would definitely do it again. Our cruise director Assata was wonderful, and the service was excellent.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
It was less than 10 minutes from the time we were dropped off by our shuttle, to the time that we were on board the ship. The check-in process was so quick and efficient. I anticipated waiting in line, but we breezed right through.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
The service in the MDR was wonderful, and the food was excellent. We did not visit any of the specialty restaurants. The buffet was alright, we only ate there for breakfast. The pizza in the Promenade Cafe wasn't the greatest. The service at Playmakers Bar was wonderful! That was our favorite bar on the ship as they had the most friendly staff.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We didn't do a lot of activities on the ship as they didn't interest us (rock climbing, flow rider, sky pad, etc.). The pools were ok, and were only overcrowded during the day at sea.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
The entertainment was pretty good. I really enjoyed The Gallery of Dreams performance. The comedian and "magician" were alright, although the magician was probably more entertaining for the children. The music at the pool and in the promenade was good.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our room steward Ram was wonderful, as were the staff at Playmakers Bar, especially Ariel and Sasa. The service wasn't as friendly at some of the other bars we went to. Our wait staff in the MDR was excellent (Joseph, Wimer, and I can't remember the other gentleman's name). The staff in the Windjammer (buffet) were also very friendly and helpful.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
I am a germ freak, and I felt that all areas of the chip were kept very clean. The ships design was great. It was easy to get around, and there weren't many areas that felt over-crowded.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Our room was clean. I even brought disinfecting wipes to clean everything, and there was no dirt, dust, etc. on the cloths when I was done. The beds are a little too firm for me, but I was so tired at the end of the day that it didn't affect my sleep. We had a balcony room, which I would do again, it makes the room feel bigger. Overall the size was just fine for the two of us. There was a lot of storage space in the cabin.
I like Miami. It's a very culturally diverse city. We were told that 60% of the population speaks something other than English as a first language. This made it a little difficult to communicate at times, as some people had a thick accent making it hard to understand. I love learning about different cultures, so I enjoyed this diversity. We did the Hop-on Hop-off bus tour when we disembarked. I would highly recommend this. We learned a lot about Miami-Dade county on the tour. It's a great to see many of the different communities. If we had more time in Miami, I would have loved to have done a boat tour as well.
I don't need to go back to Nassau. It was ok, but probably nothing I need to do or see again. We were stuck there for 2 days since our visit to Coco Cay was cancelled. Definitely do an excursion in this port. Our first day we shopped a little and then did the Deluxe Sailing excursion. I would highly recommend this. Our guide was very funny and informative (his name was either Michael or Jason...I am SO bad with names). We got to go past the mansions of famous people such as: Oprah, Michael Jordan, and Tom Cruise. The we anchored near a coral reef where people could swim or snorkel. You can't consume alcohol if you want to get off the boat for these activities, which is a bummer since the sailing includes unlimited drinks. :) A lunch is also provided, which was ok. Our second day we walked around Nassau a little further and visited a public beach (Junkanoo). It's a small beach, but the water was nice, and we didn't feel like walking any further. The service at the little tiki bar there was excellent. Some of the local people in this port were annoying as they are trying to sell you stuff as you walk by. My husband was offered drugs twice in about 15 minutes when we walked from the port to the shops. I wish we would have book an excursion to Blue Lagoon on our second day. I was worried about the time though since we had to be back to the ship by 4:30. Another couple we spoke to did this excursion and loved it.
I was warned ahead of time by a recent traveler that they are cancelling many trips to this port, so I wasn't surprised when they cancelled it during our cruise. They don't have a dock at this port yet so they have to tender you from the cruise ship to shore. The water was too choppy, making it unsafe to tender. Many people on the ship were very upset by this. I was just disappointed because it looks like a beautiful island, and it was a free excursion in a sense.
It was nearly as quick and efficient as our embarkation. We booked an excursion in Miami, so we had to meet at 7:30, which was one of the earliest times to disembark.
