Review summary

Ship is starting to get tired. Lots of delays because of the number of people with children. Shuttled service to and from airport terrible. 2 hours for 45 min journey. We actually got to ship and there was one person pointing the driver to go left, person behind him telling him to go right and a third person had the driver open the door and go somewhere else. Returning to airport one person had a flight. Driver stood chatting while we sat waiting to leave, then at the airport when person wanted to get off immediately driver shut the door so she couldn't get out until he emptied bus of the suitcases. Then he got on and told her in front of the whole bus her lateness was her problem she didn't plan correctly. We were supposed to get off ship between 8:30 & 9:30 we were not allowed to disembark until 10:30.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Didn't go to midnight buffets but was told although the food beautifully presented most of it was gone very quickly. Windjammer was very crowded and ran out of dishes and silverware many days. Food there always seemed picked over and only warm.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
Some of the new shows were excellent. Unfortunately the broadway shows were old to us and haven't changed in 3 years.

Children's Programs

1 out of 5
Although I didn't have children on board and the people working with the children under 10 worked very hard putting on little shows for the ship with the young ones. Heard children over 11 could sign themselves out of the program w/o parent so parents thinking there children were safe and supervised would be surprised. Heard several teens talking about things that were going on in the teen center that made my hair curl on the back of my neck (and I'm a teacher in an inner city school) Hopefully in 9 months there won't be a whole new generation of sea travellers.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
When you could find a staff person they went out of their way to be helpful. We went to one show and there wasn't even a waiter available to get a drink in the balcony. Although there were several running their legs off on the ground floor. Children & parents are very demanding. Most of the people in the balcony were people trying to get away from crying kids.

Ship Quality

1 out of 5
People allowed to save chairs around pool. It wasn't until the last day that deck patrol would remove towels that were left on chairs for hours. Very hard to find chairs during the sea days.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Spoiled other years on Mariner. Attendent so busy with rooms with children don't feel he spent cleaning time in our room. Other years magazines would be straighten and sov. glasses would be washed out and lined up. Wouldn't be concern but feel it is just another example of the decline of the Mariner.

Pros: When ship went into a port, most of the families got off so ship was nice and quiet. This was our 3rd time on RC's Mariner loved it other years.

Cons: Kids (over 1300 of them) running around the ship until 3 and 4 a.m. Only a handful of security and they just seemed to watch the out of control children. Usually love the shows but haven't changed in 3 years so definately weren't as exciting.
