Review summary

Compared to similar - but more expensive cruises - we have taken in the past, this was amazingly cheap and fully inclusive. Ok, I like a good red wine, but the Cabernet was more than acceptable, and the option to buy my favourite was there if needed. Superb entertainment, nice size easy to get about ship, not crowded and generally very civilised. Highly recommended.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
TUI have a system where once your luggage is checked in at the airport, you don’t see it again until it’s in your stateroom. The opposite applies on debarkation. We had a slight issue with ticketing on the way out, otherwise 5 stars.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food in the main dining rooms varied from very good to excellent, with commensurate service. The buffet was slightly limited but the quality was very good.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools were nice, clean and accessible, but no rock climbing for me. Mini golf was cool though!

Entertainment

5 out of 5
Entertainment in the main theatre was excellent! We’re not usually that bothered by the shows but these were consistently brilliant and varied, as good as anything we’ve seen on far more expensive cruises with standout performers Phillipa and Katie.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Generally excellent service, though the staff on the pool and sundeck bars were only ok, which was disappointing.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship is 23 years old previously Royal Caribbean so is traditional rather than modern, but was fully refitted by TUI in 2016 so is in very good condition. Not concerns over cleanliness or maintenance though two of the six midship elevators were off and a couple of automatic doors broke following a storm.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Size, layout and storage were all fine, and the cabin steward Falton was great.

Ports of call

Montego Bay, Jamaica

4 out of 5
Lovely port with some splendid beaches and we visited an old plantation house for high tea which was really enjoyable

Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

3 out of 5
Nice little town with a promenade walk and sea front park, which needs a lot of upgrading.

Colon, Panama

4 out of 5
Nice port area if a little tatty but I took a tour to the Pacific and Atlantic ends of the Panama Canal which was outstanding.

Cartagena, Colombia

5 out of 5
Beautiful city with gorgeous architecture and amazing culture. Do not miss the old town!

Santa Marta

2 out of 5
Very tatty beach front and very unpleasant smells at the port shuttle drop off area.didnt venture into the town...

George Town, Grand Cayman

4 out of 5
Sea swells forced us to tender away from Georgetown (which is beautiful, from previous visits) didn’t go ashore.

HAVANA, CUBA Did not visit port

The absolute highlight! Everything you’ve read is true. Simply amazing. From the cars to the buildings, the atmosphere to the colours that are everywhere. You just have to visit this incredible city before it gets more commercialised. Hire a classic car tour in advance on the net, visit a cigar factory and get familiar with how the closed currency works.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Cozumel is great, but all mainland touts were cancelled due to high winds.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
TUI have this spot on!

Havana is marked ‘did not visit‘ which is odd! As you can see, we did visit and absolutely loved it.
