Review summary

My husband and I have cruised before, but quite a few years ago - back when it was all-inclusive and you didn't have to whip your card out for every drink or pay an outrageous price for a "drink package".  We had a nice time together, but overall were disappointed in this cruising experience.  Entertainment was in short supply. One night they had trouble with the main stage curtain, so cancelled the comedian who was to perform at 11:00. We were really looking forward to having something to do after 9:30 for a change, and he could have been moved to the Spectrum lounge easily.  Pool/deck area was small for the amount of people on board - we rarely got 3 chairs next to each other. They showed one movie in 4 days - Goosebumps - which was too dumb to watch.  We did the Stingray Encounter on Coco Cay which was awesome - highly recommend.  Got rained out right after and spent the day on the ship with nothing much to do.  Food was ok in the Windjammer - nothing great - not like it used to be that's for sure.  Johnny Rockets and the Mexican restaurant were an upcharge.  Our dining room wait staff was excellent - we loved Andrian and Qianru - they were wonderful.  Our cabin steward was great as well - no complaints there.  We did a city tour of Nassau that was fine and we did the hop on - hop off tour in Key West, which we enjoyed.  The ship was older, which didn't bother us at all, but the lack of entertainment did. The entertainment they did have was good, but one show a night for about 45 minutes was it.  Then they had some random music playing around the ship that was ok, and some dumb game show type entertainment.  Probably want you to gamble all night, but that's not our thing.  At home I'm a night owl, but on board we were in bed by about 10:30 or so.  I guess it was restful.?...

What there was was fine, but there should have been more. Cancelling the comedian was a lame move.

It was what I expected - small but adequate. Didn't expect to spend as much time in it as we did, since we couldn't get deck chairs and there wasn't much to do in the evenings.

Ship tip

If you want deck chairs, put towels on them early in the day. We did not - big mistake. Do take shore excursions - there will be more than enough time on the ship with not much to do.

Loved the Stingray Encounter. Unfortunately, it started raining right after and we lost the beach day. Not RC's fault - just wasn't much done to make up for it.

The older ships tends to have less. I cruised on its sister ship Monarch back in its first year and had to pay for drinks then (back in '92).

I have been cruising for a long time with Royal. Drinks were never for free.

What year was it when drinks were included with your price of the cruise???
