Majestic Princess

14 Night New Zealand (Sydney Roundtrip)

Sail date: December 22, 2023

Ship: Majestic Princess

Traveled as: Couple

Review summary

Majestic Princess is a beautiful ship. The Piazza is spectacular. However many of our favourite dancing venues eg Wheelhouse Bar and Explorer’s Lounge have been replaced by restaurants. The buffet always seemed crowded especially if you went at normal dining times. Too many kids just out of control. Little or no parental supervision. We prefer the smaller and older Princess ships and will only cruise on them in the future.

Embarkation

Entertainment

We love dancing, live music and dressing up. Unfortunately on the newer class of ships like Majestic Princess our favourite dance venues such as the Wheelhouse Bar and Explorers Lounge found on the smaller older ships such as Coral Princess and Diamond Princess etc. have disappeared and replaced by restaurants. Pretty well all the dancing and live music on Majestic Princess are in the very public Piazza. There were about 4000 passengers on our cruise and 400 kids. The buffet always seemed very crowded. A lot of the very young kids were totally out of control and jumped around on the dance floor until mid nite. Staff did not intervene. Oh how dress standards have also fallen or is it just bogan Aussies letting their hair down. “Smart casual” now means T shirt, shorts and thongs. I am thinking I might dress up and wear a Mankini on my next cruise. Only about 30% of passengers now dress up on formal nights and the Captains party.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff very very polite and did their best looking after 4000 passengers.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Most of the activities we liked like dancing were in the Piazza which often got very crowded.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Cabins are a little dated but comfortable especially the beds.

Ship tip

If you love dancing and dressing up we would recommend the older and smaller Princess ships such as Coral, Diamond, Emerald etc. They are also less crowded and staff happier!

Thanks for your detailed review. I was not a huge fan of the Majestic, I prefer the the more classic smaller Princess ship's too. We will be on the Grand Princess in march to tour Australia and Tasmania. Can't wait!
