Review summary

Overall we had a great time. Given this overview, we will likely go back to Vietnam and do a land based tour.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Smoothly organised embarkation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Excellent.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
activities were catered to an older clientele (we fitted right in!), with cooking demonstrations, lectures on various subjects and so on.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
No too much in the way of entertainment, what with a smallish ship and an ageing population

Children's Programs

No kids and hardly any kids on board

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Always excellent at Holland America.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Considering the age of the ship, it was excellent

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Plenty of space, great wardrobes

Ports of call

Singapore

4 out of 5
We visited Singapore privately prior to the cruise. Great city.

Kuantan, Malaysia Did not visit port

Locals were badly organised, not many excursions available. Holland America apologized for including the port.

Laem Chabang (Bangkok), Thailand

4 out of 5
Excursion to Bangkok was well done, albeit a bit long. Probably could have done without the last temple. That would also have meant we would have beaten the traffic going back to the ship. Next day we took ourselves to Pattaya. Nice.

Sihanoukville, Cambodia

2 out of 5
Used the shuttle to go into town. Incredibly poor but mostly dirty. Couldn’t wait to get back on the ship. Next day we took a little excursion which was interesting and informative. Temple rather different from the ones we saw in Bangkok and I mean that in a positive way. Only things that were well kept were the temples and the enormous number of casinos where the locals were not allowed to go. Could have done with just one day in the place.

Nha Trang, Vietnam

4 out of 5
Great port. Well organized, great excursion with a marvelous lunch. We had the bad luck of getting a guide who could not stop talking and calling everyone ‘brother and sister’.

Hue (Da Nang), Vietnam

4 out of 5
Loved Da Nang. Excursion to Hoi An was well worth it. Interesting mix of Vietnam and France. Love Vietnamese food!

Ha Long Bay City (Hanoi), Vietnam

4 out of 5
Weather not the best, but had a good time nonetheless. Took afternoon cruise to the Bay (with lunch) (you notice a recurring theme here?), visitingthe caves. Magnificent.

Hong Kong

4 out of 5
Went our own way in Hong Kong. Enormous and busy. Therapeutic shopping was in order.

Phu My (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam

4 out of 5
Mooring was a little far away from the city. Took an excursion, which was a full day. Bit of hard work, but a good time.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
No problem
