Review summary

I loved the smaller ship vs the mega-liners.  The staff was great, very friendly and helpful.  Embarkation and disembarkation was both extremely easy and fast.  The quality and taste of the food was excellent, although the variety/selection/availability could be improved.  We much prefer a self-service buffet on the Lido deck, and would like the Grill to be open for the dinner hours as well as lunch.  The ship's entertainers were first-rate.  There was virtually no passenger-participation  entertainment, such as Karaoke, talent show/contest, choir.  Even for the two times (we had to convince them to hold more than one) that Karaoke was hosted, the selection was limited, and they did not know how or have the proper equipment to change the key.  We really missed that aspect of cruising.  The ports on this Alaska cruise were great, the scenery outstanding, and overall it was a wonderful cruise.

Very spacious cabin with large bathroom. This one even had a tub, although it was very narrow, and was chipped. It needs updating a bit, but overall was excellent, and it had lots of storage space. Suitcases will not fit into the closets, and have to be stowed under the bed by the steward. But that worked out just fine, and we had plenty of room for everything.

Ship tip

We really enjoyed being on deck 5, as it was quiet and close to everything. Most of the time, the gangway was located on this deck. We were mid-forward.

We love HAL and so does my husband and kids. We have been on RCL n Carnival and RCL is great HAL is a little more personal and Carnival well the price is great the crew is good but the passengers not so much and the food doesn't compare

14 night, my BF would be in heaven... Now getting him on another line other than RCI... Hmmmm.... HAL might be too formal for him too.
