We cruise each year on Royal Caribbean, and this year was sort of disappointing. The Ice Show was lacking, the nightly entertainment was lacking also. There was not enough good entertainment. I am sure the final night of Saturday Night Fever was good. We were unable to attend that event. But,. the other evenings were really lacking some spark!!! The ship was OK, but we don't water slide or play in the pools. Bingo was not interesting because it seemed they were calling the number so fast in order to get finished soon. We usually enjoy the Bingo. The smoke from the Casino was offensive. We smelled it when we were outside the Casino in the photo area etc. In all, we were sort of disappointed in our cruise this year. Royal Caribbean is catering to the kids now, and this is the reason we don't sail with Carnival.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Embarkation wasn't bad, but we were delayed because of the Covid Rapid Test which turned out not to be Rapid at all. Our appointment was at 10:30, and they didn't open the door until 11:15. This test is a rip-off. We already had 4 shots, and we had to be tested again? Then Royal Caribbean charged us 100.00 each for a test we get for free at home. It certainly was not wort the 100.00. It was a 200.00 RIP OFF!!!!
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We ate our meals at the main Dining Room. A couple of meals were eaten at Windjammer because the main dining room was closed. Food was not exceptional, but waiters were great!!! Service was a bit slow compared to past cruises.
Onboard Activities
2 out of 5
We are too old for rock climbing etc. We do like shows, and this cruise was lacking in good shows. I'm sure the final night musical was good, but we missed it because my wife broke a hip nd shattered her wrist. We could not make it, and we were really looking forward to it.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
Shows were not too entertaining. However, the band that played for the shows was extraordinarily good. They were terrific. We really enjoyed the band. The Ice Show, which we try to see twice, was very lacking. We didn't even enjoy the first showing, so we didn't try to go for a second time.
Children's Programs
1 out of 5
I don't know about the children programs because I have no children. However, I felt like I was on a Carnival ship with all the kids pushing all the buttons on the elevator, and all the teen-agers running up and down the stairs and almost knocking me down. I know RC is trying to get more people to sail with them by allowing kids to sail free, but so many kids running around the ship is the reason I switched from Carnival to Royal Caribbean. Kids are out of control..
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The man who took care of our Stateroom was tremendous. He helped with my wife as much as he could. We really appreciated him.
Ship Quality
3 out of 5
We just like the Oasis class ships better. Better entertainment, more to enjoy.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
No complaints about our cabin and our person who kept our cabin clean, DoDo! He was great!!!
Ship tip
If you have kids, sail on Carnival. If you like entertainment, sail a larger ship.
We enjoyed shopping The Stran, and doing a couple of Excursions. And we really enjoyed our stay at the Harbor House. It was neat to watch the boats in the harbor, especially at night. We certainly enjoyed the restaurants on the pier. Had a good time in Galveston.
Very good Excursion, once we found it. We really enjoyed the beach with our VIP place with food and a massage and time in the oean. Very pleasant time.
We were just a few minutes into our tour of Cozumel when my wife fell and broke a hip, shattered her wrist, and got a huge bump on her head that still remains. We then had to get her bak to the ship, off the ship once we got to Galveston; then a fast trip to Dallas to the Emergency Room act the Orthopedic hospital for two surgeries. So our time in Cozumel this time was wasted. However, we have had good times in Cozumel on earlier cruises.
Royal Caribbean dd everything they could to avoid the large crowds during disembarkation. They provided a wheelchair and a pusher to get her out of the ship an through the port. We appreciate all they did. However, the Medical people were not too good.
All cruise lines are still loosing money because of COVID.. they are cutting back in many areas of service and quality as well as entertainment. Hopefully this is only temporary.
