Review summary

This was the most enjoyable vacation we have been on in a long time. The best part was traveling with our adult children. We are definitely planning to cruise with them again.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Somewhat cumbersome and slow getting to the terminal, dropping luggage, parking car, returning to and terminal. The actual check-in/boarding process was about what one would expect based on the number of people embarking the ship.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
I give this an overall EXCELLENT but there were some spotty areas too. We loved the dinners in the dinning room. The food was great and the service was excellent. Our waiter and assistant waiter went out of their way to make sure we had everything the wanted, including some off-menu items. The breakfast and lunch in the dinning room was great but the service was not to the standards we enjoyed at dinner. Breakfast in at the buffet was was good and was mostly self-service. Not enjoyable was lunch at the buffet. We found the food to be mediocre, at best. The dining area was noisy and crowded. One lunch in the buffet was enough for us.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
We hung out in the pool area, my wife played bingo, adult kids did the rock climbing, and we played mini-golf. The activities were enjoyable. I don't recommend the mini-golf unless you have young children.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We saw several show, including and ice show, standup comic, and musical theater. The performances were all top-notch. There were technical difficulties with the audio in the main theater on a couple of occasions. We also enjoyed the music in several of the lounges too.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The waiters in the main dining room at dinner were EXCELLENT. They made sure that we had everything that we needed and wanted. Our evening dinners were the best part of the shipboard experience and that was due in large part to our waiters. When our waiter discovered that our adult children loved Indian cuisine, he brought them Indian dishes every evening in addition to there regular meals. He also brought us one of the desserts we all loved on several occasions even when it was not on the menu. Our stateroom attendant was very helpful and friendly. He made sure that our stateroom was clean and comfortable and that we had everything that we needed to make our stay enjoyable.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship's layout was convenient, we had no difficulties finding the various entertainment and dining areas. The promenade was designed like a street with shops, bars, and snacks along the way.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We were very pleased with with the size of our stateroom. It was bigger than we had anticipated. We also were pleasantly surprised by the amount of storage that we had. Our stateroom attendant made sure that we room was clean and that we had towels, ice, and anything else that we needed to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas Did not visit port

We arrived the night before sailing but we did not do any activites/excursions.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

My wife, one of our sons, and I enjoyed a relaxing day at a private beach club. The rest of our travel party did an underwater excursion on some sort of bike/scooter.

Belize City, Belize

5 out of 5
My wife and I shopped but did not do an excursion here. Our adult children did an excursion to a cave which they enjoyed but complained that it was overbooked. The ship's departure was delayed due to their late return from this excursion.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
This was the best port in my opinion. We all did the deluxe dolphin encounter/ride with all-inclusive lunch and beverages. We all enjoyed the dolphin experience. The food was much better than I had expected. The only complaint was that the photos were grossly overpriced.

Disembarkation

This was a total fiasco! We were supposed to disembark at approximately 10 am but it was later than that. The delays were probably a result of the partial government shut down but we were not given information by the cruise line as we waited to get off the ship. Customs went smoothly and getting my car and getting back to the terminal to pick up my wife and our luggage was somewhat better than the drop off process was.
