Review summary

I enjoyed cruising with Royal from Galveston. The ship is very pretty. The Captain was very visible, went to two events where he was present and meeting people. That was nice.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the main dining room, the menus were varied and the food was good. We ate lunch at one of the specialty restaurants, Chops Grille, and enjoy prime steaks with a beautiful view. The Windjammer buffet offered a good selection for breakfast. At Sorrento's the pizza was tasty, as were the salads. The Promenade Cafe had good sandwiches during the day and evening, and nice baked goods in the morning.

Windjammer Marketplace

5 out of 5

We ate breakfast here every morning. The selections are varied, from made to order omelets, pancakes, waffles, bacon...to cereal with milk. Coffee, tea and juices are available, too. My personal favorite was the smoked salmon with all the trimmings served every single day. The seating could get a little tight, but we always found a place to sit. Pay a little extra and enjoy the fresh squeezed orange juice, it is a treat!

Main Dining Room

5 out of 5

A lovely venue, with a nice menu. And they serve creme brulee every single night for dessert. We were on a 7 day journey, and enjoyed lobster tails on the 2nd elegant night. 3 stories, with My Time Dining on the bottom floor, and assigned dining on the upper 2 floors. The Chef's Table was served on one of the landings on the staircase.

Chop's Grille

5 out of 5

The lunch menu at Chop's Grille has a nice selection of food. Steak, chicken, a burger, salads with good sides. The dessert menu was good, I recommend the key lime meringue pie.

Café Promenade

5 out of 5

Having a 24 hour Cafe was convenient both for early risers and late night folks. I enjoyed being able to grab a light snack and a specialty tea/coffee or a fountain soft drink right on the Promenade.

Onboard Activities

Flowrider

5 out of 5

I'll be honest, I enjoyed sitting in the bleachers and watching more graceful folks using the Flowrider.

Liberty Dunes

5 out of 5

Busy little mini golf, all the way forward and all the way topside. Fairly well maintained, considering that it is in the elements 24/7

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We did not go to any of the stage shows. But the classical guitar player on the Promenade was wonderful. The DJ's made the pool areas lively.

Promenade

5 out of 5

The Promenade is a nice feature. The shops and dining and bars, and the art work and decor made it a pleasant place to enjoy people watching.

Library & Card Room

3 out of 5

The library is a wall of book shelves, with a small selection of books, and a few chairs. I dropped off some books that I'd brought from home and finished on the trip. But it was nice to see that there were some books available.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
The main dining room servers are excellent. We enjoyed "My Time Dining", but due to the wonderful gentleman working the check in desk, were able to have the same table & servers for dinner every night. Leonardo and Eric took excellent care of us both. Our room steward was attentive to our needs, and available when we needed him. Roz outside the Windjammer was so much fun 'WASHY WASHY" with a song & a dab of hand sanitizer. For some reason one of the baristas at the Cafe could not get my order right, I'd order tea, and she'd give me a latte. But it was easily remedied. The bartenders were very talented.

Ship Quality

There was ALWAYS cleaning going on. The windows, common areas, even watched a crew member power washing when in port, and washing the windows outside the Windjammer!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
This stateroom was all the way forward, port side, with two large portholes. We enjoyed our views. The room was larger than the standard oceanview room, and was pie/wedge shaped. The layout was nice. The closets and desk/TV were on the right as you entered. The beds were to the left. We had a small love seat/sofa, easy chair and coffee table by the portholes. The bathroom entrance was to the far left of the room. Our steward kept the room clean.

Ship tip

Go down the slides, they are a lot of fun. The mini-golf is fun, and the views are amazing!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Keep an eye on the weather reports, as Harborside Drive has experienced a great deal of flooding when there is heavy rain on the island.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
Coxen Hole was a nice port. We used a local company, had a personal driver and went on a glass bottom boat tour and snorkeling at West Bay. SO many fish!

Belize City, Belize

The tendering was easy. We went down in the morning and got an early tender ticket and were ashore in a timely manner. We used a local firm and went on a private tour to Altun Ha ruins.

Cozumel, Mexico

We walked over to El Cid hotel, right next to the cruise port and enjoyed a day pass.
