Review summary

We loved our first cruise. We loved Royal Carribean and the Liberty of the Seas. We are already looking at dates to go again. We went with 4 families and there was something for all ages. We really enjoyed our vacation and felt it was well worth the money spent.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
We had a great experience at the port. It was so smooth dropping off luggage and boarding the Liberty. We had lunch - the Windjammer was packed but they opened up Giovanni's for extra seating. We were able to get into our rooms by 1PM and our luggage arrived by about 3PM.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
The main dining room food is good. Nothing stellar but it was good. I wish there was more variety - seems the menu has been "dumbed down" from what they used to offer that I've seen shared online. But all our dinner meals were fine. Our best meal by far was dinner in Giovani's. The Windjammer food is typical buffet food. It was good, nothing great. The dining room staff and serving staff were fabulous! Such great people providing wonderful hospitality and service.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We enjoyed all our time on board the ship. Our kids rock climbed and spent time in the Kid's Adventure Club. We swam at the pools and the little ones enjoyed the splash pad. We participated in the cupcake deccorating class which the kids enjoyed. We went to kareoke which was interesting. And we did some shopping. We really enjoyed the Liberty of the Seas.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The shows on the Liberty were fabulous! The Ice show was excellent as was the flying show In Air. We loved Mo5aic's concert and we weren't going to go to the juggling act but were really glad we did because it was great. The commedian was great and we belly laughed throughout his act. We were too tired and stressed about packing the last night to see Saturday Night Fever which I was bummed about. Wish they would have had that show earlier in the trip instead of last night.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
Our kids only participated in the Adventure club a couple of times but they enjoyed it. We were disappointed one night when we went to drop off our 3 year old and the club was full so we didn't get to have our planned adult night out. It would be nice if they took reservations. But the staff were nice and the activities were good for the age groups.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
All the staff we came in contact with were PHENOMENAL!! Especially our room steward and our dinner dining room staff. We were so impressed by how attentive and friendly everyone was.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
We loved the LIberty and plan on sailing again on this boat. It has a good layout and the ship is in good condition.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We LOVED our cabin. It was on the 12th deck and was a room with floor to ceiling windows. The room is a wedge shaped room and offered plenty of space for our family of 4 (2 kids, 2 adults). The bed was very firm but comfortable. The couch was made up into a double bed each night for our kids which worked out great. I would definitely book this type of cabin again. The bathroom and shower were not as small as expected - I'd heard horror stories but it really wasn't bad.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

4 out of 5
We only used this port for departure and arrival. Things were fine.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
We loved Roatan. It was raining when we arrived but we had a beautiful rainbow over the jungle. It was easy to walk from the ship to our transportation area for our excursion. We had a tour of the island, went to an animal refuge where we held monkies, sloths and birds and then went to the beach and snorkled.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
The port at Costa Maya was so clean and easy to access. We walked several blocks out of the port to reach our excursion transportation and guides. Once you figure out how to get out of the port shopping area it was a breeze. We took a tour to Chacchobben to the Mayan ruins and had a wonderful tour.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
Cozumel was another great port that was very clean and offered great shopping. It was easy to access. We were able to get a taxi without any problems to go to Chakenaab where we had a fabulous experience swimming with the dolphins, manatee and seeing the sea lion show. We also snokled at their beach which has great access. We would definitely go back to Chakenaab again. The buffet lunch that was included in our fee was not great but it was free food.

Disembarkation

There was fog in Galveston and the ship was not allowed to dock till after Noon. The Libery captain and staff were very helpful in providing updates and information as often as they could. The weather was not their fault and they generously allowed guests to stay in their cabins and watch a movie as we waited to dock. Due to the weather delay we missed our flight and our scheduled transportation to Houston. It was a very rough travel day but nothing having to due with the cruise line or staff. I would recommend if using Galveston port in the winter that you plan on flying home a day after your cruise in case of bad weather.
