Review summary

Comment: My husband has adrenal insufficiency and started a 102.9 fever Friday night. I couldn't get a tray in Windjammer to take him some food. Was told no.... so, balanced plates LOL. After we were not able to dock back in Galveston for many hours, I went to the Guest Services desk about Wi-Fi and wile there, he started feeling worse (he fever was gone we thought). The young man called Medical and handed me the phone. I explained situation was just told to go to Medical and buy Advil out of a machine..Yikes! Finally: Looking back, this was the 3rd time we'd been on Liberty. Very disappointed this time in a few things. We weren't before but for our last three cruises lately we've noticed a lack of what should be expected and what we experienced before from RCCL. Note - I just enjoy cruising and will do it again! Maybe a different line since RCCL seems to have let down on their standards.

Not bad though long lines even for Emerald

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food in the dining room was good. Menus have been changed to cheap looking one sheet of paper in a binder; not a luxurious feel at all. Pizza was good in Sorrento's and the Muffaletta from Café Promenade was excellent. Windjammer food was decent. If you order continental breakfast room service, order twice what you want because they send you 1.25 cups exactly of coffee for two people!

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
The orange & green water slides not exciting as you'd think LOL.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Ice Show was fabulous! My seat though was broken and had evidently been that way for a while. Near by people said there were other broken ones. "Air" show was great. Funny but Cruise Director wasn't as active & visible as ones on other RCCL ships.

Children's Programs

No children with us

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Service was great. Cabin Attendant, Alvin, couldn't have been nicer. The other two cabin attendants close to us were very friendly and concerned that we have a good time. Bar service was great at the pool. Dining room (Michelangelo (Table 449) has the BEST wait staff ever!

Ship Quality

2 out of 5
Ship was supposed to have been renovated but the carpet in our cabin hallway (and others) was stained as though there had been a flood. See photos. Other places on the ship were just not up to par with maintenance and cleanliness. Some were great though. Weird!

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Our very front of the ship cabin was fine. Size we expected with room to move around. Two closets made it extra nice! Safe was in one of the closets sideways where you couldn't see into it. Husband lost his wallet & we all including cabin attendant searched for it. It was standing in such a way in the safe that you couldn't see it until closet was empty & you actually stood inside the closet looking into safe. Even then, you couldn't really see it but could run your hand all around and I could feel it standing up in the front corner - Whew!

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

Flew in a day early and fell in love with Galveston. Sweet little area. Great meal at Gumbo Diner.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

. For Roatan, go out the port gates, turn right and down on the right is a shop "Made in Roatan". It is a mission shop with all handmade local goods at great prices! They take cards & PayPal although I had to walk down to a restaurant with Wi-Fi to do PayPal since I'd forgotten my card on board. The restaurant was on the beach; just a shack really but got the best drink ever for $6. Note: I went alone which was probably not smart. Once you are out of port, very poor area and a bit scary.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Costa Maya's port was nice although that pier makes it quite a hike to get there! Many shops, local actors, a salt water pool, even a Starbucks with good Wi-Fi. Found my Voltaren Gel in the pharmacy with a stronger strength. It's so expensive in USA even with insurance and very cheap here. I loaded up!

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Been here a bunch -Cozumel was the only port my ill husband got off to. We'd been there a lot always fishing but everyone told us we just had to go to the Mega Store. Don't bother...waste of time and taxi $. Free Wi-Fi at a hut on the port.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Port closed due to fog until after noon. Had to change flights twice & shuttle prepaid CRUISE CONNECTION would not pick us up! Thank God for Diana with Lyft. The ship could have kept us better informed but they did offer free wifi & free calls for us.
