This was our first cruise ever, and disregarding the weather was a wonderful experience. We loved the food, there was always something to be doing while on board, and the staff was exceptional. This trip was our honeymoon, and we were truly able to relax and enjoy ourselves. I have already referred a friend and her fiance to this ship and a similar cruise itinerary for their honeymoon as well.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
The lines to get on the ship were fairly long, but they moved quickly which was great. We also did our check-in online which helped to cut down on time immensely.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
Food in the main dining room was very good, just wasn't a fan of how long we had to wait to actually get our food brought out to us and sometimes how long it took just to get our order taken. Food in the Windjammer Cafe was always good, they had a good variety throughout the cruise and also kept "favorites" on the buffet lines for every meal.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
We felt that there were plenty of activities on board, although we didn't participate in a lot of them. We did really enjoy the ice skating rink, it was really neat to be able to do that in the middle of the sea. The pools, hot tubs, and slides were great fun also. My husband and I were impressed with the amount of free weights and equipment the fitness center offered.
Entertainment
We didn't attend any entertainment activities while on board.
Children's Programs
We did not bring any children with us.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
We felt the service we received from crew staff during our cruise was top notch. Everyone was friendly and greeted you with a smile. Our stateroom attendant was the best; he stopped by multiple times a day and answered any questions that we had.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Everything was easy to find (once we figured out which was the front and back of the ship) and seemed to be well placed. I never noticed any messes or places that seemed like they were not being cleaned.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
I was personally very pleased with the type of cabin we had in regards to size. It was big enough for two people to move around without much difficulty and had plenty of space to store our clothes and other items we brought with us. My husband felt the balcony was not needed for us, as we didn't use it often. I, however, loved having the balcony and wished I had drank more cups of coffee in the mornings on it.
Ship tip
The cantilevered adult hot tubs can be pretty full during the day, but if you go while most of the people on board are at dinner (usually around 7:00-9:00) they will typically be fairly empty.
Also, if you go to deck 4 and take a walk outside, you can get to the very front of the ship and stand right at the prow! If you are a fan of the movie Titanic, you can easily recreate that famous scene where Rose is "flying".
We booked our parking beforehand, and it was easy to find and very close to the port. We embarked and disembarked here, nothing else. I know that there are plenty of things to do nearby, as I live in Texas and have been to Galveston before, we just didn't do any of that at this time.
The port itself seemed small and didn't offer many shops. The excursion we did to Maya Key was fun and would have been better if the weather had cooperated. Since it was raining and very windy the conditions were not good to snorkel, which we were told was a top thing to do because of the reef and wildlife.
This port was a good size with a ton of shops and authentic food. Unfortunately, the weather was even worse while at this port so all of the beaches were closed and many of the excursions had been canceled. We did not have one scheduled for Costa Maya, and had planned on snorkeling at a beach on our own but were unable to.
The excursion we booked in Cozumel was a day-long adventure to the Coba ruins and a nearby Cenote, so we were only in the port long enough to get on a ferry both ways and to wait to board the ferry. The weather actually was nice on this day, and the water and beaches looked beautiful. Our excursion was awesome, only wish we had more time to spend. Due to the distance of the ruins, it took us over an hour to get there by bus (after a 45-minute ferry ride to Playa del Carmen) and left us roughly 1.5 hours to see the ruins and climb the temple. After we finished here, we hurried to the cenote where we only had 30 minutes to get changed and experience the beauty of the underground well and go swimming. While we thoroughly enjoyed both parts of this excursion, we learned that in the future we would not pick any excursions that offered more than one activity so we would be able to get the full experience and not be rushed.
We did the self-assist program and walked off with our luggage, it was so easy for us. We wanted to get started on our trip home as early as possible, so we were in the first group to leave the ship. Our stateroom attendant informed us the night before that we could leave as early as we wanted, so we were able to get off the ship around 7:15 am. I would seriously recommend doing self-assist if you don't have a ton of luggage and can easily carry it yourself.
Can’t wait until we sail for our 10 year anniversary in March! So glad you had a great time! We are for sure debarking ourselves. We want to get off as soon as possible to drive the 9 hours home. I’m glad to hear it was so easy.
What was wrong with the weather?
Never been on a cruise during February but going on one next month and I’m kind of worried about how the weather will be, we usually go during the summer so never experience any problems and always enjoy the pool
Liberty was my wife's first cruise and our first cruise together. We thoroughly enjoyed out Transatlantic sailing on this ship, the days at sea were excellent. Our experience was very much like your review. Glad you had a nice cruise!
