Review summary

First time we have done a cold weather cruise and I was pleasantly impressed - best scenery of any cruise we have ever done! Don't worry about the ship - enjoy the relaxation and peace of untouched nature ..!!

Embarkation

Going thru the cruise terminal in Vancouver was the easist process we have ever encountered. Had our passports and paperwork ready and went right thru Customs and walked on to the boat!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
We were disappointed with the Main Dining room. We went there on Formal NIght and were not impressed. The food was average and service was not would I would expect. Servers were not engaging and actually messed up my order. We must have experienced an off night at the Pinnacle Grill. Hostess was rude and short with us, stuck the two of us at a 4-top table which the additional dishes for the other two guest were not removed. Wanted the Lobster Bisque, but was talked out of it by the waiter with him saying "It is not good this time of day", received the wrong appetizers and then the 15oz Ribeye I ordered was all fat and gristle..could not eat! The manager did give us a makeup lunch the next day which was good, but I had hoped for an upscale dining experience which we did not get. Lido Buffet was good and the Seafood Boil night was awesome.

Onboard Activities

Used the Hot tubs but hard to enjoy as they were filled with kids most of the time, even the adult specified hot tubs at the rear of the ship. Could really use an adults only pool and hot tub.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
If you are looking for high energy nightlife..this is not it. Nice and relaxing. Enjoyed the Blues Music and trivia. Dance performances were good and entertaining. On this Cruise, the itinerary is more spectacular than the ship itself!

Service and Staff

It was a mixed bag. Some were efficient and engaging, but most just went about their business and did not openly engage. Would be nice if they were able to show a little more personality ....

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Smaller ship was nice and it appeared to be clean. Workers were always wiping and cleaning as you went thru the ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Room was clean and well equiped. Loved our balcony and it provided great views of the Glaciers and scenery...! Back of the ship was quiet and isolated. Lots of storage, we over-packed and still had room for everything.

Ship tip

This is laundry services available - $25 a load for a day. Everything we read prior said there was not. Knowing that we could wash our clothes would have reduced now much we packed !!

Cruise Tracy Arm Fjord, Alaska

Windy and Chilly. We had a rainy day so didn't get to enjoy it as much due to the clouds and rain.

Juneau, Alaska

Another day of rain, but took the excursion to the Mendenhal Glacier which was awesome. Did a Whale Watching excursion after which was with a large group, if we had to do it over again would have done more of a personal tour with a smaller group/ship to get better access to Whales ! If you like crab - I mean real crab - go to Tracy Crab Shack right off the pier. Best crab I have ever had - pricey but worth every penny!@

Skagway, Alaska

What a fun place. Take the train ride - it doesn't matter which one. Views are incredible !

Cruise Glacier Bay

Amazing - got to see so much wildlife ..bald eagles, sea otters, sea lions, whales..plus the incredible views of the glaciers and the pictures that we will print and hang on our wall to make the memories last a lifetime. Note: fF you have a camera with a zoom lens bring it!!

Ketchikan, Alaska

Totem Pole excursion was OK - tour guide was a character and made the trip special and fun. Took a chance and went to the Lumberjack show..didn't know what to expect but it was really fun! Had a great time and lots of laughs!

Disembarkation

Quick and easy - showed ships card and got right thru Customs
