Upon our arrival we detected an urine odor in the bathroom and shower area. I could not get past that and the crew immediately corrected the smell however, the room steward cleaned the mop on two occassions with a dirty/soiled stank mop. We decided to just leave the room and pray that the smell will dissipate.
As with any other place I lay my head I took on the task to check where I would sleep Traumatic experience when one try to remove the sight of the disgusting mattress. Most disgusting mattress with holes/tears and stains. I am appalled that my hard earn money was wasted on this experience which was how my husband and I celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary. I've cruised with Royal Carribbean in the past and I am traumatized, disgusted, disappointed, and will not recommend this ship.
Embarkation

Embarkation was just okay nothing outstanding
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
1 out of 5
The ships main dining room was the best experience. Mayrinel was our waiter and was amazingly attentive and made our overall trip better. Now the watered down alcohol drinks were the worst. The redundancy of the menu/meals/food had me feeling so robotic, I'd rather spend my time as a castaway. Mediocre food, poor taste and with the overall outdated feel of the ship, the food fell far short of what our expectations were. Thankful for the experience as I am for sure no of this will be repeated. Zero stars if I can, won't recommend.
Onboard Activities
3 out of 5
Participated in the ship activities were not on my radar however, in order to give a crediable review I took part in the morning "dance" class on deck...it was ok, I was able to move my body. The pool was packed on day at sea which is expected, the hot tub swelled with bodies so I advoided entering at all cost.
Service and Staff
3 out of 5
The room steward never introduced himself the entire stay. We just addressed him as "hey" which is rude however, for staff not to introduce themselves deserved just a hey. The waiters were friendly the one young gentleman who greeted EVERYONE at windjammer was amazing he truly earned five stars overall however, since this review is based on overall experience the crew earned the three star rating....
Ship Quality
1 out of 5
hated every thing about the antiquated ship and design. Common areas seating be prepared to be traumatized, nasty stains in the patio furniture and although I understand it is an older ship however, should older stains be addressed? Ohhhhh no, nasty is my way of saying it kindly.

Ship tip
Consider Carnival equally before cruising this "Jewel" sailing should be enjoyable in ALL aspects and not leave a distasteful experience.
aggressive locals pushing you to purchase merchandise even after telling them no thanks, lack of activities, and who in their right mind would want the same foods the ship offered?
The Rum tasting tour....tour guide discussed his alcoholism after taking a shot of rum. Make that make sense! The walking was an issue for some however, I just ask they make it very clear in the future the tour required walking to and from the destination. Was it worth the trek...absolutely NOT! If I could have requested a refund I would have. smh
My first cruise was on the Jewell of the Sea, it was great. Being my 1st I didn't know what to expect. The cabin was clean, all the areas beautifully kept. Dining was superb and as for alcoholic beverages mine were not water down. I did not make my bed so I did not see the condition of the mattress. Don't give up on Royal Caribbean.
Thanks for the review. We have sailed on the Jewel and enjoyed it. It is an older ship, but offers some great itineraries from ports that may not support one of the larger ships. With 4-6 ports in 7 days on it’s typical itineraries, the onboard experience is not as important as some other itineraries.
