Let's face it; half of the fun on a ship is the food. Unfortunately, that was very disappointing on the Jewel of the Seas. We were also unhappy that our excursion to Costa Maya that took us to a club that was only partially open and where the food at the buffet was disgusting. We had so much fun with our friends, however, that their company made up for so many shortcomings.

Ship experiences
Food and Dining
2 out of 5
The food was very disappointing. We stopped going to the dining room, the food was so bad.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
We loved the peace of the Solarium. We also enjoyed the game shows and trivia very much.
Entertainment
3 out of 5
We were surprised that there weren't any big ensemble shows. We were also upset that the same comedian performed on two nights.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
The staff were excellent! Very friendly and helpful!
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The staff worked extremely hard to keep the ship clean. Even though the ship looks old and dated, it was kept clean.
Cabin / Stateroom
3 out of 5
We absolutely loved the balcony! The room however was very old and the extremely hard mattress had two dents in it from previous passengers. The pillows were way too big as well.
Ship tip
I wish someone would have told us about the adult slide on deck 13. We found it on the last day when it was too windy and cold to go on it.
We went on a snorkel excursion. the club we were taken too was way past its prime. We were saddened to see so much of the coral was dead and there were very little fish to be seen.
We went on a salsa y salsa excursion and that was a lot of fun! We could not go into the sea because there were a lot of fish that were biting us. Then, the pool's water park and children's section was closed so that was extremely disappointing! Lastly, the food buffet was disgusting! They had the same dried out food at 9:30 in the morning that they had at 3:00 in the afternoon. We did not eat!
Thanks for the review. It’s interesting that 2 others on the same sailing loved the food and used fantastic” & “excellent” in their description of the food. I guess everyone’s tastes are different.
