Have now done two smaller ships, Jewel and Serenade, in succession following a cruise on the Harmony. Small ships remind me of what cruising used to be...pampering by staff, higher quality of food, communal feeling among passengers.

Review summary

Had a great time but this is a very challenging itinerary. Usually did 10,000-12,000 steps per day, on cobblestones. It was extremely difficult for those with physical handicaps/conditions to keep up.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Off the buses and at Windjammer within 20 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Didn’t partake of the specialty restaurants but food was generally good. If you didn’t care for what you ordered, something else was happily prepared. Breakfast buffet in the MDR was the way to go.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Activities director was exceptional and activities in the Centrum were great, though the space was often too small to accommodate participants. Port intensive itinerary prohibited too many activities like climbing or pool.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The production singers were very talented and we enjoyed hearing them sing in various venues. Acts in the Centrum were very good, and the orchestra was terrific. I’m not a big fan of the production shows so only attended one, which was so-so.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Michelle and Ilhan, our wait staff, were amazing, and Orlando, our room steward was the best I’ve encountered.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin steward, Orlando, was fantastic. Room was snug for two-can’t imagine it with three or four.

Ship tip

Not generally a family-type ship. Kids might be bored without all the bells and whistles, but if you enjoy being spoiled and getting to know fellow passengers, Jewel is the way to go.

Ports of call

Naples, Italy

5 out of 5
Weather didn’t cooperate for Capri so we did Sorrento instead. Beautiful town and the ride there with views of Mount Vesuvius was incredible.

Haifa, Israel

5 out of 5
Great tour of Akka, where we saw a newly excavated castle from the Crusades. Fascinating.

Messina, Sicily

5 out of 5
Beautiful tour of Taormina. Tough walking though.

Ashdod, Israel

3 out of 5
Loved Jerusalem, disappointed in the tour itself. Would have preferred two days in Jerusalem to see more of the city. We were hustled off to Bethlehem and only allowed to shop there.

Limassol, Cyprus

5 out of 5

Piraeus (Athens), Greece

5 out of 5
Private tour to Corinth to see the ruins there as we had all been to Athens previously. Far fewer crowds in Corinth.

Rhodes, Greece

5 out of 5
Took an excursion to Lindos, which was far, but beautiful.

Kusadasi (Ephesus), Turkey

5 out of 5

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Fast and very efficient.

Thank you so much for your review. I had this itinerary booked for Nov 2020, but canceled it because im a solo cruiser and wasnt feeling it with excursions and such. I booked for Mediteranian and Greek Isles instead with Jewel. So hearing your review of the ship was also very helpful. Thanks again 👍
