Had a wonderful trip aboard the Island Princess with family. Weather was fabulous. We had one day when the seas were a little rough. The swimming pools were hard to use on that day.
Embarkation
4 out of 5
Had to wait until inspection was completed. Never got a group number to board, but when we told them they let us board with the group that was boarding.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We enjoyed our two meals in the specialty restaurant (Bayou). The wait staff in all areas were very friendly and helpful. A couple of mornings we had to wait to get coffee and find a table for 3.
Onboard Activities
5 out of 5
Enjoyed the inside pool and hot tubs. Only used the fitness center one time. I used the stairs most of the time instead of the lifts, so I got plenty of exercise. Enjoyed getting the different charms. Wish I would have started earlier as I missed out on several of the charms.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
Thoroughly enjoyed the comedian, Steven. The magician was good, but the comedy show was better. Loved the 50’s and 60’s dance.
Children's Programs
We did not have young children with us.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our steward, Felix, was very friendly. We had a third person in our room, so he had to make the sofa bed every night and every morning he would have it back to a sofa. Our waiters were very friendly and made great meal suggestions. Jonathan at the Bayou Restaurant made sure our meal was prepared as requested.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
They were constantly touching up areas. When ship was docked, they were doing maintenance, vanishing small areas and even painting.
Cabin / Stateroom
4 out of 5
We had three adults in our cabin. Overall it was comfortable, but the sofa bed for sleeping had a lot to be desired. It would not suggest 4 adults unless they are petite.
Ship tip
Enjoyed having our cabin midship. Make sure you highlight the activities on the Platter that you want to attend. You receive the brochure every evening for the following day.
Very clean and we did not encounter any pushy vendors on the streets. We enjoyed the Atlantis Submarine excursion. Not enough time to really do more than one. Lots of stores for shopping.
Clean! Not much to see right at the port. Did the Hop On Hop Off bus. Enjoy seeing the Old Walled City. Did not do the Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas because of it would have been to hard for my husband to walk to the top. Getting back to the ship was a nightmare as there was an accident and they had to take us on a different route. It was very warm and there was no air conditioning. We barely made it back to the port in time before it was scheduled to leave. Lots of pushy vendors in the Old Walled City.
Lots of music to make you happy. We did the boat ride in the canal. Saw lots of interesting animals and the ride was very relaxing. Great excursion for those individuals that aren’t able to do a lot of walking.
Didn’t see much at the port. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was I wish we had more time to do something else. Did the zip line. The ride to the zip line destination is on a very winding road, then on a dirt road through an abandoned orange plantation and finally to where you meet your guides. I had never done a zip line adventure and this one I will never forget. You better be in pretty good shape as there is a lot of steep inclines. There are 6 different line in this adventure. The last line is over 1000 feet long and over 200 feet above the jungle floor. I would do it again. You are on several platforms that are pretty small when you have 10 people on them.
We did the EZ disembarkation where we paid extra to have our luggage sent directly to our airline. All we had was our carry on to worry about. The cruise ship printed our boarding passes and luggage tags. Going though custom was easy, but still had to stand in long lines. Maybe next time get Global Entry as that line was much shorter and went really fast.
