Review summary

For a floating retirement home, it's not a bad cruise, except for the food and the excessive norovirus!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The quality of the food in both the MDR, Horizons Buffet and the specialty restaurants was poor - the worst of the 4 cruiselines we have sailed with.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The Island Princess is a small ship to accommodate sailing through the old locks (Just the first set of locks, the Gatun Lake locks) so there were very few amenities. The fitness center was located in the windowless bowels of the ship - very dark and depressing.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It's a small and older ship.

Ship tip

Unless you don't mind a very quiet and boring cruise with many older passengers, avoid this ship and itinerary

Ports of call

Falmouth, Jamaica Did not visit port

The winds were too rough to port.

Cartagena, Colombia

1 out of 5
Skip this entire stop - the tours were dull, you spent 70% of your time on a bus and when you got to the tour stop, there were hundreds of other cruise passengers there too.

Panama Canal (Cruise Into Canal)

3 out of 5
This was the only thing that was interesting.

Puerto Limon, Costa Rica

George Town, Grand Cayman

It’s a shame that you don’t know how to read your itinerary before you book a cruise. My itinerary showed me how the boat was going before I booked the cruise.

Floating retirement home - well, if when I’m ready to retire my home sails up the Panama Canal I’ll be very happy.
