Review summary

Doing an Alaskan cruise was a trip of a lifetime. Doing the land portion before the cruise was a great idea, too. Loved the whole experience! We were so lucky to have wonderful weather in most of the Alaskan ports.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
I would have to say the buffet on this ship was excellent. My husband & I frequented it mostly for breakfast & lunch (when we were onboard). The MDR was our choice for dinner. While I enjoyed the food that was offered, I have to say that I wasn't really "wowed" by any of the dishes.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
My husband and I enjoy attending shows on cruises. The shows on this ship were outstanding. Very professionally done. Kudos! The other entertainers on the ship were very good as well. We especially enjoyed the band, Symphonee who often played in the Explorer's Lounge each night.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
My room steward was great. He took care of us well. Most of the ship's staff that I encountered was very gracious. However, in the MDR, we were not so lucky. We had a waiter & assistant waiter who were unable to work together as a cohesive team. The assistant waiter was poor and our head waiter had to work double time to make up for his inattentiveness.

We do not usually book a balcony room when we cruise. It was advised by our friends that we do it for this trip. So glad that we did!! Viewing the glaciers on your own balcony was amazing.

Ports of call

Whittier (Anchorage), Alaska

Only saw this port briefly as we boarded the ship. Can't really say I saw much.

I would have liked this port better if we had not tendered in. I did an excursion at this port. And I also wanted to explore the town afterwards. I had very little time to do that because I had to consider the time it took to tender back to the ship.

Vancouver (Canada Place), British Columbia

4 out of 5
Great port! Explored the city after our cruise. Spent 2 days here. However, the fires burning in British Columbia polluted the air around Vancouver. Would have enjoyed it more had it not been for the smokey views.
