Very crowded Indy trip by wagtail1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Mediterranean

On board experience was spoilt by smoking by pool . So many electric wheelchairs became a hazard especially when parked in the corridors and dining rooms . The ports of call were lovely but needed a sea day to break them up. The cruise felt very busy and i will choose a smaller ship in future.

Ship: Independence of the Seas

Just got back from the Canaries cruise 2-16th had a great time - ship was brilliant but I believe the recent upgrade has only brought her up to the the standard of the other RC ships I’ve been on, As always the staff and crew were fantastic and couldn’t do enough for you, at times I did find it a little cramped and I think 4000 passengers is a very tight fit especially on the sea days where the sun beds are touching each other and you couldn’t move for other people

Just returned from our cruise... by Walls

Sail date: /
Ship: Independence of the Seas

Just returned from our cruise to The Canaries 2nd - 16th June on The Independence Of The Seas, The refit is good but to say they have spent $120M on the refit the TV’s in the State Rooms are poor. One other big issue is that RCL have added a number of new cabins increasing the capacity of the ship by approx. 500 and this definitely caused problems in the public areas like restaurants and lounges where on sea days it was hard to find seating, Tables in dining rooms far to close to each other. All in all a good cruise but RCL definitely trying to make every dollar out of the ship.

Just returned from a 14... by commodoreW

Sail date: /
Ship: Independence of the Seas

Just returned from a 14 night round trip to the Canaries. First time on Indy but we have sailed with RC previously. Last year we sailed on Navigator and loved everything about it. Kept hearing that Indy was better so we gave it a go. Positives- - ship has had a huge refurbishment and was great. Plenty to do and never a dull moment - Food was fabulous throughout the ship. Sorrentos pizza is to die for - New Playmakers bar is a great addition and a great family space - Sky Pad was great fun Negatives: - Staff were professional but nowhere near as attentive as on Navigator - stateroom steward was appalling. Rude, uncommunicative and made us feel unwelcome - Charged stupid amounts of money for ‘complimentary’ shuttle buses. Not advertised that they were chargeable and we didn’t know until we saw the charges on our account. Loads of people were similarly affected. Overall we had a fantastic cruise but the level of service was nowhere near as good as previous RC ships. I think that because Indy is known as the UK’s favourite ship, they don’t feel the need to make such an effort. At no time , apart from the room steward, did we feel poorly treated but there was definitely a noticeable difference.

"Sardine Ship of the Seas " 4,128 passengers for 1,600 sunbeds by Adrian1943

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

The ship is beautiful but seriously overcrowded. 1,000 less passengers needed for comfort. Only way to guarantee a seat is to bring your own in scooter or hand. Tried food in MDR is mediocre so went to Windjammer with better food and more spacious. Massive lack of sunbeds leaves frustrated passengers. Staff valient in bars. The system to pay for drinks takes longer than making the drinks. You thought the service in Wetherspoons was slow wait until. The voyage was to celebrate my 75 birthday and tick off Bucket List-Go on a BIG SHIP. Done that next on list.....

Fab ship with good food. by CruzerGuys

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

For us this was just a quick break. We prefer the longer cruises, especially transatlantics. Having said that, it was a nice break. Although a school break week in the UK, and packed to the ships limits, there usually was room (except pool areas) and it wasn't too bad in the Windjammer for lunch. Hint: less packed outside normal family meal times. As usual, the best is always the crew. Wonderful. and always professional. RCI. What else...

Ship: Independence of the Seas

Nice ship and crew. Clean inside. Sweat lounge now has panoramic views after upgrade. 'Skypad' is a new feature which makes a diffrece from the wasted space on the pool deck. Brilliant cruise. The only downside is the elevators which take an age to come.

Just back from a 5... by Navsha70

Sail date: /
Ship: Independence of the Seas

Just back from a 5 day cruise on the independence going to Cherbourg and Cobh in Ireland. 13 of us went for my parents 50th Anniversary. Ages ranged from 76 to 13 and there was something for everyone. Food was amazing. Ate in the windjammer all but 1 meal as some of the kids have limited palets but windjammer had something for everyone. Cocktails were good. Shows were brilliant, especially Grease and queen tribute band. Enjoyed last nights street party. Weather wasn't particularly on our side so didn't use pool much. Only Tiny issue we had was that we looked round escape room on 1st day and said we would do this on last day and then when we turned up got told it should be booked. A simple sign saying please book on stairway up to it would have meant we got to do but instead missed out. Laser tag was great fun. Didn't get round to doing the skypad either as that was pretty busy too. Overall first cruise for 11 of the 13 that went but won't be the last, loved it

Not all that I expected.... by ammiesu

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Western Europe

The ship is renovated and beautiful astheticly. Its clean and large and the shops are high end. The service and attention to detail when it comes to experience is what's lacking. This is my 9th cruise and rates about a 4 for me with what my expectations were vs what I received.

Fantastic ship refit and amazing scenery by patrcaribbean

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

A very enjoyable cruise although a bit short for us. The fjords were just amazing and the captain went out of his way to show us the fab waterfalls even performing a 360 degree turn ensuring we got the best view. Cruise Director was hardly ever seen which was weird.

A must do cruise! by Rocketman1963

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

Absolutely the best cruise we’ve ever been on, and it was our 16th cruise! Norway is a place of incredible beauty. Think Alaska but Better! The ship is magnificent as well. The Flam Railway is a must do excursion. Put this cruise on the top of your bucket list! The one low point was Molde, Norway. The weather didn’t cooperate so we didn’t get to see the 222 mountain peaks and there not much else to do in Molde.

Very Nice Cruise by frogturtle

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Independence of the Seas / Destination: Europe - Northern Europe

This was an enjoyable cruise for our family. The weather going north wasn't always friendly, but we were blessed with glorious (and from what we hear unusual) weather in Geiranger, Flam, and Stavanger. The staff on the cruise were wonderful. Our food was spacious. Our kids did not like the very small bunk bed quarters, but they go through it. We enjoyed the entertainment particularly the ice show and Grease. The food was good and bad. Some of the food was very tasty and fresh, and some things not so tasty and stale. I think they offer so much variety, that they can't maintain quality in all of the food. If you are a seafood lover, this is definitely the cruise for you. And all of it was very good. One major complaint that we had though was the lack of seating during peak times at the buffet Windjammer. Many times, our family could not find a table during breakfast and lunch. It was very, very frustrating. People are supposed to clear tables after eating, but they don't and none of the staff is really on top of that. They make an announcement that no on listens to so not sure how they can solve this, but it is definitely an issue. This cruise during May is not the cruise to plan for swimming, etc. On the days we had nice weather, it was warm enough to swim, but while moving out to sea it was very cold and windy. We found it strange that they take a ship made for warmer climates to colder destinations. But again, some people did get enjoyment out of the water activities. One thing I did like was all the walking we had to do on the ship. But if you don't like to walk for food, stay at the back or stern side of the ship where the Windjammer was located. The workout room is fantastic with wonderful views. This was several floors above our room so on the aft side. We enjoyed this on the days we were cruising at sea. Overall, we would recommend this ship, cruise line and sail to Norway. The fjords in Geiranger and Flam alone are worth going for.

The newly vamped independence of... by budandchuck

Sail date: /
Ship: Independence of the Seas

The newly vamped independence of the seas is amazing it was our first time on her so can't really compare with the changes but enjoyed our Norwegian fjords cruise x the entertainment and the other shows especially grease and the ice show I'm at awe with great talent. The mdr and all the waiting staff were brilliant and courteous at all times the problem we had was the lack of sitting space mainly in the schooner bar and r bar especially when the quizzes were on
