Review summary

Independence is a great ship. Western Caribbean, been there 5 cruises so time to change it up a little for next cruise. Weather could have been better but all in all a nice relaxing 5 nite cruise. Would recommend to anyone getting away for a short cruise.

Embarkation

Got to pier about 10:30, no lines, by the time we got our seapasses we went upstairs to wait to get on ship. About 10 minute wait and we were walking on the ship. 30 minutes total.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We used the main dining room for all dinners, 2 lunches (sea days) and 2 breakfasts. Food was extremely good. Enjoyed it very much. Plenty of variety. Getting tired of windjammer, prefer other venues.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
This was a five night cruise. Went to evening shows mostly, Grease was amazing as was the ice show. It was around 75 each day and mostly windy so didn't sit by the pool too much on sea days. Enjoyed the quiet in the Diamond lounge.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
As stated before, Grease was amazing and so was the ice skating show. Walking around the ship listening to the various musicians was nice and relaxing.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
We had the best waiters in the main dining room for dinner. Fnu and Erin were knowledgeable, made suggestions and kept us laughing and stuffed all week long. Didn't see our room steward too much, but we were not in our room much, always clean, ice bucket full every day as we asked. Thank you to Remesh for taking care of us.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Love this class of ship for the promenade. Love sitting in Sorrentos or Cafe Promenade enjoying a cup of tea or in my husbands case a beer and people watch. Even though she is going into dry dock in April the ship was clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We picked this cabin for the close proximity to elevator. We are a retired couple so like being near elevators. Always book a balcony as we like to sit out and watch the world go by especially in the morning.

Ship tip

Because of reviews, we were told that even though you do not have to make reservations for shows you do need tickets for the ice show. Went to service desk as soon as we boarded, asked about the tickets and was told they would be given out the next day by studio B during a certain time. Glad we knew beforehand

Ports of call

Been several times, just walked around port and had a nice lunch at Flavors of Mexico. Great Salsa and guacamole.

Grabbed a taxi to Pancho's Backyard for lunch. Second time there and they did not disappoint. Great Margaridas and food. After lunch walked around city then back to ship.

Disembarkation

Easy peasy, we used the luggage valet. Best 25.00 pp we spent. Like the idea of walking through customs not dragging luggage. Left ship at 8:00, through customs and at airport at 9:00.
