We've been on over 14, 14 alone on RCL and we found the quickest way is self carry. We always have one suitcase and a bag like a backpack or a tote so it is easy on and off.

There are a number of factors that play into departures. First travel lite. Express off the ship early. Earlier the better. The experience of the cruisers leaving makes a huge difference. It takes one or two yahoos in front of you through customs to back everything up. How many kids are in front of you. Did customs open on time. How many desks are open. Departures are always tough.
