Review summary

Harmony is a great ship, just very large and I felt very much for children/teens. For a couple, there wasn't a whole lot for us to do. We stayed mainly in the Solarium during the day which was peaceful, but there isn't a plunge pool to cool off. We did get into the shade eventually in the Solarium and enjoy some games and drinks with friends in the afternoons.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was truly a pleasurable experience. Every staff member we encountered was just great. From the luggage handlers all thru the check in process.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We absolutely loved the variety and food in the Main Dining Room. Our waitstaff made it all the better. So fun at dinnertime! (and lunch in MDR when available!) We only ate at the buffets a few times. They were OK...nothing special.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
Pool was extremely crowded, so didn't get to visit it. I would've been really concerned if I was traveling with children. There was just no room available unless you got there maybe at 6-7 am? Fitness center was crowded, but managed to squeeze in a couple workouts. It was very well eqiupped.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There was only one show, a musical, Columbus, that we liked. There was one evening band in Dazzles that was good...the rest of the entertainment wasn't the greatest. The ice show and aqua show had a couple good elements, but overall very confusing/chaotic.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
From the time we ended the MDR every evening until we left- all of the staff we encountered was wonderful.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
The ship was clean. It was interesting that there wasn't indoor areas to sit and look out (unless in the Windjammer buffet or Solarium buffet) But in the evenings if you wanted to have a drink before dinner (and didn't want to go outside) you couldn't sit in a bar or lounge and see the water/sunset.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The cabin seemed smaller than other ships we have sailed on. It was comfortable but could have been cleaner. We used the balcony every morning and our cabin steward didn't clean it. I had to pick up any toast or muffin crumbs that were left, so as not to step on them. I didn't have a broom, so just kinda brushed them aside each day. I also don't think our room got vacuumed, as there was ribbons and bobby pins that we did not bring, on the floor. I'm assuming they were from the guests before us.

Ship tip

It carries a lot of passengers. It's not easy to get a seat at the pool or solarium area. Some of the venues are super crowded so you'll need to arrive real early.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida Did not visit port

We live in FL and just drove to the port, parked and boarded the ship.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

5 out of 5
We loved Labadee! I was so surprised at how welcoming it felt. The music and dancers were wonderful as well as the lunch provided and drinks. We enjoyed floating around in the water and the swim up bar.

Willemstad, Curacao

4 out of 5
Curacao was interesting. We walked around a little in the shopping area, then walked to the Distillery. It was a 4 mile walk, but doable. We enjoyed the regular tour which ended with a nice frozen cocktail.

Oranjestad, Aruba

5 out of 5
We loved our time in Aruba. We rented Jeeps and ventured the entire length of the island, finding an off the beaten path restaurant for lunch. We ended up at Arashi Beach to enjoy the water for awhile. Rental of the vehicle was easy and we spent the entire day out on the island just following a map.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Disembarkation was amazing. Such an enjoyable end to the cruise....very good staff!

Interesting. We have been on Harmony twice and Symphony 3 times as an older couple and have always had plenty to do. I guess it just depends on what you are looking for. We recently went on Celebrity Constellation and Holland America Rotterdam and were bored on both those ships.

Royal Caribbean, especially it's newer ships, are geared toward families. Definitely, give Celebrity a chance next time as they are geared more toward adults.
