Review summary

Overall we enjoy cruises. Thought we would never be disappointed. Unfortunately this cruise left us disappointed. There were some highlights, but due to issues they overshadowed what should have been an unforgettable vacation.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Embarkation started off poorly when someone in security confiscated one of cases of water. Not only did she take our water, but also yelled at us and told us how rude we were. Issue was she was rude.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
We switched tables due to our first table being a tight squeeze. Wait staff provided good service. Food served on this cruise was never hot.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Disappointed that Bingo was played in an ice rink. Due to arrangements tables were not available to rest cards on and ink pens supplied to mark card instead of dabblers. Otherwise activities were good.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We enjoyed the shows.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Main dining room waitress, Cheryl, and her assistant waitress were excellent. Cabin steward was very thorough. Other service personnel did not provide the type of service we have come accustomed to on Royal Caribbean cruises. For example we waited more than 10 minutes in the Schooner Bar for a drink. After waiting that long, we went and got our drink from the bar. It just seemed like some of the crew members were tired and didn’t have much joy in their job. Understand after years of waiting tables that sometimes it is no fun providing customer service. On our disembarkation day we had to be escorted out as my husband contracted COVID. Elena, believe she was from customer service, came to pick up our bags which were supposed to go with us when we left. When we tried to explain she didn’t listed. In fact when customer service phoned and I explained that our bags were supposed to go with us, Elena refused to bring them back. On day 7 when my husband was diagnosed with COVID, we spoke with customer service multiple times to understand our disembarkation plan. From those conversation the plan was to disembark with our adult children who stayed in 14703. Elena also informed us that our children would not be disembarking with us. When I gave her our bags through the door and attempted to speak with her just outside our cabin door, she gently shoved me back in the cabin and shut the door. She didn’t listen to me when I explained that I was COVID negative. One of our adult children traveling with us is speech and language impaired which made us quite unhappy that he could not disembark with us. Our entire disembarkation was complete chaos. It seemed like the 1st time these crew members had disembarked COVID positive passengers. Even though a crew member escorted my husband and I off the ship, we walked past several other passengers who were in the hallways and waiting for elevators. Had they arrived earlier, like they had informed us, these passengers would have been in their cabin.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Harmony of the Seas is a large ship that accommodates 1000s of passengers. After embarking, we went to the Windjammer for lunch. Tables were placed in the pathway where people pass through to select their food. In fact as I was making my way to select my food, I stepped to my right to allow others to pass, and I was hit by the kitchen door with a crew member trying to exit the kitchen. Solarium does not have a pool. Three small pools were always packed with people so we never had an opportunity to swim. We will not sail again on this ship. Have no interest in soaking in a hot tub for hours.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Cabin was clean and well maintained. Issue I had was with the beds. They were too hard. Thank goodness we received some relief when our cabin steward made up our bed with some a padded mattress cover. We experienced these same type of beds on our Bahama cruise in October. Royal Caribbean should seriously consider changing their mattress supplier.

Ship tip

Be sure book a balcony cabin on the ocean side and not on deck 14. Our cabin had an interior balcony on deck 14 which was extremely noisy. It was noisy almost all day long. assured us when we booked this cruise our cabin would be quiet. For future cruisers be sure to tell them that deck 14 is noisy.

Ports of call

Port Canaveral, Florida

4 out of 5
We did take tours of both St. Martin and St. Thomas. Both of these tours were informative.

Perfect Day At Coco Cay, Bahamas

4 out of 5
Coco Cay went well. We did not go on an excursion. We visited Coco Cay on our October ‘21 Bahama Cruise.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

4 out of 5
Yes, we toured St. Thomas.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

4 out of 5
Yes, we toured St. Martin.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Please see previous notes. Disembarkation was complete chaos because my husband contracted COVID and there was not a consistent message delivered as to the disembarkation plan. There is lots of improvement needed when these issues arise. Elena needs to take time to listen to passengers. I tried to convey our plan, but she was unwilling to listen. Placing me back in the cabin and shutting the door is quite inappropriate.

Do they test at the end of the cruise? For Covid… or was he just feeling sick so they tested?
