Review summary

I thought it was great. They weren’t yet at full capacity which was awesome and we got a nice upgrade.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The new muster requirements are so much easier. Gone are the days of standing around awkwardly waiting for an announcement you can barely hear for a demonstration of a life jacket a 2 year old could figure out. The new process requires you to view information on your phone and find (and check in to) your muster station. That’s it!

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Windjammer has more staff now which allows them to serve (cutting down on the spread of germs). Specialty dining was good, my favorite food being Jaime’s Italian and Johnny Rockets and the main dining room for best service.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
There is always a trivia or some other fun contest to take part in.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Entertainers on the boat are always fun. I gave it 4 stars because booking some of the venues was a little difficult and the choice of movies weren’t all that great.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Some better than others but all were great. A couple standouts: Nazarii - Schooner bar bartender really makes awesome drinks (knows what he is doing) Deepak - Johnny Rockets gave us excellent service Giselle - from the Central Park bar was super friendly.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
There is some cricking and cracking that happens at night near the balcony door when the ship’s a-rockin’.

Ship tip

Follow up with your dining plans for confirmation. We bought a dining package near the pool first day from a gal walking around selling them. None of the dinners we booked with her were confirmed with any of the restaurants. We had to make trips to guest services to figure that out.

Matt, The upgrade… Interesting turn of events. We bid on one of the upgrades and “won” a larger balcony room. Then while boarding, Royal upgraded us to a Jr Suite. Not sure how the $ will all shake out (since technically we didn’t stay in the room we bid for) but, the room was a welcome surprise.
