Review summary

Started slow, quickly improved. They need to focus on more staff to have you feel like you're getting that personalized attention.

Embarkation

3 out of 5
Embarkation was slow because families in front of us did not have passports and paperwork ready to go.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

4 out of 5
Food was great but service was extremely slow the first four nights. 2.5 - 3 hours for dinner at pre-scheduled MyTime dining. Chef's Table food was fantastic but took 3 hours (advertised as 2; need to improve accuracy of their mealtime descriptions).

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools, ice skating, casino, fitness track, shops

Main Pool

4 out of 5

For all pools, chairside bar service was non-existent the first few days. They improved significantly as the cruise continued.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Fine Line Aqua Theater was awesome! Skating show was great, as was ventriloquist.

Children's Programs

We did not have children with us.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Stateroom attendant was outstanding the entire cruise; she gets 5 stars! Waitstaff service already covered. Guest Services couldn't even say where we could go to get a snack like a candy bar (which by the way is nowhere, not a Hershey Bar to be found!)

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Layout good, cleanliness started slow but improved greatly in pool areas.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Great use of space; Ocean balcony had comfortable lounge chairs and everything was clean and in great condition.

Ship tip

Schedule your dining in advance and take advantage of the discount package for multiple nights of upgraded dining.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

5 out of 5
No excursion, wandered the shops ourselves.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

4 out of 5
The Port was fine, but the excursion was definitely not up to expectations. Did Old San Juan tour, and the bus driver made it nothing but a political statement about how Puerto Rico hates the United States but wants our money for repairs for the hurricane damage and they want the right to vote for the President. Non-stop political statements.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

4 out of 5
The port was great, and the excursion was okay. If I did this cruise again I would not do an excursion but instead would do something at the port. They've done a great job at the Port of setting up the areas for dining and beach time!

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Easy and quick!

Stateroom attendants are always highly rated! Wait staffs at dining room were great back then, and those in specialty restaurants were knowledgeable about the menu. (Obviously they have tasted everything) Some staffs were found less friendly, say at the front desk, where it was normally busy; and surprisingly at the NextCruise! But it troubles me too when I read that the Symphony is have fewer staffs but more passengers.
